LCA soon to hit i-Pod Apps!!
Recently we shared an award winning You-tube video created by our Australian colleagues, Eco Innovators, featuring an animated story of a cell phone that creatively explains Life Cycle Assessment titled Life-Pscycle-ology.
Accompanying that project and currently in development is a life cycle ecodesign i-pod/i-phone application to be launched in a couple of weeks. The application is in the form of a game where the user has to answer  life cycle ecodesign questions in order to reach a fun arcade style game.
These projects were designed in an effort to inspire and engage people in the environmental impacts of everyday things. We support these efforts and encourage you to check them out at http://www.ecoinnovators.com.au/projects.

Integrating LCA into the Product Development Process
At the upcoming Sustainable Packaging Symposium, Laurel McEwen of EarthShift will explore the challenges that packaging designers face when incorporating Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) into their company's design processes. As companies struggle to integrate sustainability performance metrics into the product development process, they're finding that the tools and methods available to them are complex and require a significant amount of time to learn and implement. McEwen will present a practical solution to place LCA into the hands of packaging designers by using a simplified LCA Tool for Packaging Design.

 Recycling in LCA- March 28 & 29
Have you ever thought about the life-cycle of a product that is made from recycled material? What about the life-cycle of a product that is recycled at the end of life? When you really think about modeling recycling it can make your head spin. For instance if you are building a product made from recycled materials should you account for the impacts of the raw materials extracted in a prior life? Or if your product is going to be recycled at its end of life, do you account for the impacts to refurbish your product in its next life? And if you are using recycled materials and also planning to recycle your product at its end of life, is it correct to ignore the prior life's raw material impacts and the future life's waste impacts? Where do the boundaries lie? How do you allocate for these issues?
This course, Recycling in SimaPro, will go over the methods used for recycling scenarios as well as how and why to use them.
