EPD's required in France by 2011
Beginning January 1, 2011 all high volume consumer products sold in France will be required to have an Environmental Product Declaration, EPD, label on them.
EPD's are ecolabels that disclose enviromental performance of products and services over their life cycle. Life Cycle Assessment, LCA, is the science behind these ecolabels.
Untill now all EPD's have been voluntary and have followed the guidance of LCA standards. However, with France leading the way, other countries have already begun work towards implementing such standards for mandatory EPDs. These regulations will probably be seen next in the EU and Japan.
Read more about the developments on EPD's and the call to action in the US.
EarthShift is offering a LCA for Decision Makers Seminar once a month all year. This seminar was designed to help you and your company be prepared for future environmental regulations by learning about the science behind sustainability measurements. The next seminar is scheduled for January 19. |
LCA for The Building Industry- Feb. 3
EarthShift has teamed with Athena Sustainable Materials Institute on a course to teach building industry professionals how to use LCA.
This course will teach participants to use Athena's EcoCalculator and Impact Estimator, LCA tools which are used by industry professionals and both the LEED and Green Globes certification programs. Find out more!Follow up this class with our Beyond Building Green Seminar March 16th. Scientific life-cycle energy analysis repeatedly shows that energy use in the operation and maintenance of buildings dwarf the "embodied" energy of materials. Architects and builders should join our building science educator to learn the essential design considerations every green building professional should know before starting a low energy building project. LCA is no longer just for the expert - it is a crucial design, procurement and marketing tool! |
