Pastor 102010 Dear Family and Friends,

As we approach the Easter season. I can't help but to think of what the Resurrection means. Let me share a few thought about it. He Has Risen! This is not a saying, it's a reality. Jesus is alive today!! He lives within the heart and soul of his children. No more despair, no more bondage, oppression has been lifted and there is now hope for those who had lost all hope on Good Friday. All darkness was replaced by the Power of the Resurrection.

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave is the key to our Christian Faith. His Resurrection is the guarantee that the death that grips the human race because of Adam has been conquered and that life is now our destiny.

The Resurrection is available to all those who come to God Through Jesus Christ. Romans 8:11 says "If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your Mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you."

I extend an invitation to you and your family to be my guest at our Easter Sunday Service on April 4, 2010 @ 10:30am.

                                         The High Priestly Prayer!!

This is an excerpt of Jesus' last recorded prayer before He was taken for His trial and crucifixion:

"Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent...

I am praying for them...Holy Father, keep them in your name...that they may be one, even as we are one...and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves...

I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one...Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth...

I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, ...The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,...so that the world may know that  you sent me and loved them even as you loved me...

O righteous Father,...I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them."

Connie Hendrickson HIV/AIDS in the African American Population

Submitted by Connie Hendrickson, RN
Servant Leader of Heaalth and Wellness

HIV/AIDS is on the rise amongst the African American population.  Each year more than 56,000 Americans contract HIV, almost half  of whom are African American.

African American's account for two thirds of the infections that occur among women.

The effects on youth are high as well, the number rises to 70%.  Among the health concerns for young people, young women face the higher risk of HIV infection than males.

President Obama promised to focus on the countries HIV/AIDS epidemic. Over the past twelve months much progress has been made.  Last April the White House and CDC launched "Act against AIDS", the first national HIV/AIDS social marketing effort the government has under taken in twenty years.  While it is crucial to prevent new infections, it is just as important to provide support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. One important goal is to ensure access to comprehensive health information and related services.

The Community Nazarene Church is committed to praying for and assisting those with HIV/AIDS. We will be connecting with outside organizations to help us develop a program to reach this population. Jesus said "to whom much is given, much is required."

At CNC FOOD PANTRY, our mission is to provide assistance in a dignified way to the community and elsewhere regardless of the socio-economic challenges.

         All are welcome!

The Food Pantry is open on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10:00 am to Noon

The Food Pantry was first started in the 1970's by one of our founding members, Sis. Lillith Boxill. The pantry serves over 20 families weekly. Praise the Lord for the faithful workers that assist in the program, Mrs. Minnie Dublin, Miss. Vera Brown and Mrs. Josephine Gay.

The vision of the pantry, since it's inception, has been to develop a supermarket type service allowing individuals to help themselves to the food that is needed. In addition, we have now expanded the pantry to a Meals-on-Wheels Outreach Ministry during the Thanksgiving Season. Last year, the community was invited to eat a delicious hot meal at the church; it was well attended. At the end of the day we were able to distribute food to the areas of the community where people congregated. The meals were well received by all.

Our commitment to the community is based on charitable donations from Long Island Cares and our congregation.  By the grace of God we hope that all will be fed and all needs will be satisfied.

A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.                 Proverbs 22:9 (NIV)

          HOUSE OF LOVE!
Submitted by Servant Leader Tricia Daley-Bowles

My dear friends... Love comes from God, and when we love each other, it shows that we have been given new life.  1John 4:7 (CEV)

This year we know the theme for our 60th anniversary is This Far by Faith.  We are in a household of faith.  And in this house it has to be a house of love.

So as we are in Jesus we should love, forgive and pray for one another.  There will be days where we must deal with difficult people, there will be days when the small petty problems keep us from acting with love.

Things will happen where we disagree, where we make mistakes but as believers we need to show ourselves as the family that loves one another.

There is much hatred in this world and in this community.  But we the church, we the believers of Christ can continue to follow the Word and show love for one another.  We can lift each other up when we are down and help each other fulfill the duties of the church.

My prayer to you is for increased love!  We must love each other as Christ loves us.  This can be difficult but we must stay in faith and persevere and continue to live with the love of Christ on our hearts
