Pastor Solomon Dear Members, Friends and Family,

I...do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe   (Eph. 1:16-19). May God continue to bless each of you and your families in 2010.

Pastor David L. Solomon

PrayHeavenly Father, we lift our hearts in prayer and praises to thank you for the many blessings you have given us. We ask you to bless our church and the surrounding communities. We also pray for the leaders who are embarking on a ministry to bring our young men to know Jesus.  We pray great success in this outreach and we give God the glory. We also want to thank you for the strength and courage we have heard and seen in the midst of so much destruction and unrest around the world. However, we have reassurance that God is in control and your will be done. Thanking you God for everything. AMEN!

HOW MUCH BLACK HISTORY DO YOU REALLY KNOW?

Submitted by Ed Gaye

Are you proficient when a conversation hits the table about black history and its pioneers, or is your knowledge of it misinformed?  Many of our young African Americans are severely in jeopardy of loosing their culture and their knowledge about black history. We continue to starve our minds when we don't seek the valuable information that is infinitely there.  The rich and hearty history that surrounds us in Wyandanch should not be taken for granted, it should be embraced and taught to our young African Americans so that it sticks in the minds of our people.

BLACK HISTORY IS ALL AROUND US...

Not just in the media but also right in our own neighborhood where its beginnings should be as important to our children as reading, writing and arithmetic still is.

The pioneers of Eastern Long Island and Wyandanch have paved the way for African Americans like you and I; and made it possible for us to live in a thriving community where residents are able to raise a family, work with respect for each other and their surrounding neighbors.

Short conversations with the old folks who lived in the Wyandanch community for several years helped to inspire me to research the history.  Wyandanch holds a rich tradition of prominent pioneers that were able to build a tradition of founding stakeholders.

Wyandanch has an interesting story about how African-American families thrived in this community in the early years of change.

We need to continue to educate our own children,

We need to continue to build this community

We need to continue having pioneers who break barriers and create change for "you and I".

Build a relationship of love and respect for everyone just, as God wants it.

60th anniversary

The festivities have already begun to honor a very momentous occasion this year:

The 60th Anniversary of the Community Church of the Nazarene!  Our theme for this anniversary year is This Far by Faith because it is faith that laid the foundation for which this church was built upon.

And what is faith?  Hebrews 11:1 says, Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

We are certain that God exists.  He wants us to trust Him and seek Him for all that we do and all we desire.  He has a great plan for our lives.  He wants us to know Him more.  So how can we do that? Here are two habits that we can build upon:

1. Spend time in God's Word.

John 8:31 says Jesus told the people who had faith in him, "If you keep on obeying what I have said, you truly are my disciples.

2. Spend time in prayer

John 15:7-8 says If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

On this journey of faith, God's word and our prayers are the keys to unlocking the blessings that He has for our lives.  He wants us to be fruitful and have abundance.  Therefore, let us continue to Seek Him and Pray!
