MASTERCAM: X6MU1 has released!

This update is highly recommended by MCAM. It is the first thing we will ask you to do when calling for support, it will improve your X6 health and has many improvements.

Note: It's always a good idea to create a windows restore point before installing any major software update. In windows, go search, type restore, select "create a restore point"

What's New with Autodesk Product Design Suites for 2013?

Last year we saw the launch of the Product Design Suite for Manufacturing. This package harnessed the power of Digital Prototyping in one affordable package and made it easy for companies to share one digital model all the way through the design process, from concept to marketing.

This year Autodesk has made it easier to imagine, design and create by adding more of the functionality you need into those packages.

INVENTOR: Tech Tip

Sketch Dimensions - Stop clicking twice to enter a dimension value!

To enter dimension values upon placement of dimensions in sketches:
  1. Open Inventor
  2. Go to Tools > Application Options > Sketch tab
  3. Check the box labeled "Edit dimension when created"
MASTERCAM: X6 Waterline toolpath issue

Sometimes using the HST Waterline toolpath results in a partially machined profile where we expected the entire profile to be machined, except for any pockets that are smaller than the minimum pocket size set in Transitions. In some situations in X6 the Waterline toolpath is treating a boss as if it were a pocket and skipping it.

To correct this in X6, the setting for "Skip pockets smaller than" needs to be set to a smaller value. This has been corrected in X6 MU1.

AUTOCAD: Tech Tip

To start AutoCAD with any named profile. For instance, starting AutoCAD Mechanical as plain AutoCAD:
  1. First, copy and paste your AutoCAD or AutoCAD Mechanical shortcut icon.
  2. Slowly click twice to rename this icon copy to reflect the Profile you wish to start with.
  3. On the Windows desktop, right-click the AutoCAD icon, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Shortcut tab, and in the Target text box replace <<ACADMPP>> with <<VANILLA>> (or any other profile you wish to use upon startup)
  5. Click Okay

Start AutoCAD with your desired profile by double-clicking your new icon.

MASTERCAM: 32 or 64 bit versions?

With the release of Mastercam X6 we now have both 32 and 64-bit versions available depending on the operating system that is installed. There are a number of advantages to using the 64-bit version, one of them is being able to take advantage of far more system memory. In the past, and for the X6 32-bit version, the maximum memory that could be used was 4 GB. With the 64-bit version of X6 more memory is available.

MCAM Northwest recommends 32-bit systems have 4 GB, and 64-bit systems 8 - 12 GB of memory for optimum performance.

Memory limits for operating systems:
Version - 32-bit - 64-bit
Windows 7 Ultimate - 4 GB - 192 GB
