2012 Findlay Walk to End Alzheimer's
What: The Alzheimer's Association's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Public Forum on the Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Task Force
The Hancock County Community Partnership encourages members of the community to attend a Public Forum on the Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Task Force. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15, 2012. The forum will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Davis Building at The University of Findlay Room #102 (300 Davis Street - Formerly the Owens Community College Building). Members of the Task Force will review the progress to date and future steps for each Committee and the Strategic Prevention Framework Grant from the Ohio Department of Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services. The S.H.O.P. Event at the Agency on Aging
The S.H.O.P. Event will take place at the Agency on Aging (339 E. Melrose Ave, Findlay) on Sunday August 12th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. SHOP stands for Simply Home Opportunity Products. This is a unique monthly event that will feature many different types of home based, catalog and party businesses. The public is invited to meet and connect with consultants at this free event. HPD Offers Evening Float
Advance registration required by August 13th.
Come relax and enjoy an evening canoe float on the Blanchard River with Program Assistant Chris Allen, Thursday, August 16. Participants will meet at Riverside Park, Zonta Landing. Basic Canoe instructions will be given before going on the water. Families and youth are welcome, with at least one adult per canoe. Community Foundation Awards $21,500 in Grants
The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved grants totaling $21,500 at the July board meeting. This total includes one competitive grant totaling $14,000 and three president's discretionary grants totaling $7,500. Findlay Village Mall will be hosting "Fall In Love with our Community" exhibit Sept. 21 thru Sept. 30. Perseid Meteor Shower
Millstream Astronomy Club president, Steve Rice, will talk about the Perseid meteor shower. This is the best meteor shower of the year and it really gets good on the morning of Sunday, August 12. TREADLE LATHE TO BE DEMONSTRATED AT MCKINNIS HOUSE
The Hancock Park District is offering the program "Powering up the Treadle Lathe" on Sunday, August 12 at the McKinnis House. This free public program will focus on the hand tools that are used in the workshop. This program begins at 1:30pm and lasts until 4:30pm. Litzenberg Memorial Woods located at 6100 US 224, 6 miles west of Findlay. The site is handicap accessible with restrooms available inside the Activity Barn. Red Cross Begins Volunteer Recruitment Drive
With severe storm season fully underway and tornadoes, flooding and home fires an ever-present threat, the American Red Cross is asking the public to consider learning more about becoming a disaster volunteer this year. There will be an information session on August 14th at 6pm at the Hancock County Red Cross, 125 Fair St. in Findlay for anyone interested in joining the Hancock County Red Cross Disaster Action Team. Registration is not required, but RSVPs are requested to ronald.rooker@redcross.org or (419) 422-9322 ext. 7. Anyone 18 or older who is interested in finding out more about joining the Red Cross Disaster Action Team is welcome to attend.
Eyes at Night Hike
Enjoy a summer evening with your family by joining us for an Eyes at Night Hike! This event is held at Oakwoods Nature Preserve on Thursday, August 9 at 8pm. Meet Program Assistant, Rikki Youngpeter, at the "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center for a fun-filled hike in search of nighttime eyes and explore why eyes seem to glow at night. We'll also keep our ears open for crickets, cicadas and other night creatures. Be sure to bring a flashlight, wear appropriate shoes for walking the trails and bring bug spray, too. It's time for the 4th Annual Lunch On The Lawn!
Blanchard Valley Center would like to invite you to their lunch on the lawn event on Friday, September 7th from 11:30 - 1:30. A picnic style lunch will be served. Bring your own blanket and sit on the lawn and enjoy the entertainment. There will also be tables available both indoors and outside. Mark your calendars and join us for a relaxing, fun-filled lunch!
Dr. Allison Westcott Joins BVH Women & Children's Center
Dr. Allison Westcott has joined the Blanchard Valley Hospital Women & Children's Center. Dr. Westcott provides obstetrics and gynecology care and is accepting new patients. She received her medical degree from The University of Toledo and completed an OB/GYN residency at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina. She joins Dr. Miguel Jordan, Dr. George Abate and Certified Nurse Practitioner Teresa Jones in the practice. The Women and Children's Center is located at 1818 Chapel Drive, Suite C, Findlay. FALL HAYRIDES OFFERED AT RIVERBEND
The Hancock Park District is now taking reservations for antique, tractor-drawn hayrides at Riverbend Recreation Area that will be conducted September 22 through November 3.
Reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis when confirmed with a fee of $60, check preferred or exact cash, payable at the time the reservation is taken at HPD office located at 1424 East Main Cross, Findlay. Interested persons may call the HPD office. Owens Workforce and Community Services: Offers Internationally Recognized Leadership Program
Workforce and Community Services (WCS) has scheduled another DDI
( http://www.ddiworld.com/ ) Supervisor/Leadership Development Program. The four DDI Modules included in the 16 hour leadership development training program are:
Oct. 16 - Essentials of Leadership, Oct. 18 - Coaching for Improvement, Oct. 23 - Resolving Conflict, and Oct. 25 - Leading Change. The classes are from 8:00 AM to Noon each Day the cost $495.00 per person for the four modules.
