BWC Increases Funding for Safety Councils
Additional funding strengthens commitment to workplace safety and injury prevention

Blanchard Valley Hospital HeartCare Center Renamed for Jane & Gary Heminger
Blanchard Valley Hospital is pleased to announce that the HeartCare Center will be renamed the Jane & Gary Heminger HeartCare Center. The renaming comes in tribute of the Heminger's recent donation to support cardiovascular services at BVH and in recognition of their many contributions to Blanchard Valley Hospital throughout the years.

New First Aid App Brings American Red Cross Safety Tips to Smart Phones
The American Red Cross has launched its official first aid app, putting free and simple lifesaving information right in the hands of smart phone users. This app is the first in a series to be created by the American Red Cross, the nation's leader in first aid and emergency preparedness information. The app is free and available for iPhone and Android users. Find the app in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for American Red Cross.

Area Students Receive BVHS Nursing Scholarships
The Blanchard Valley Health Foundation has awarded six area students nursing scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year. The recipients were: Kara Haggerty, Jason Brunswick, Amber Feighner, Natalie Phoenix, Terri Armstrong and Tiffany Henige.

Get Your Motor Runnin'
We're heading out on the highway for the 2nd Annual Ride For The Red motorcycle ride on Saturday, September 15th. Ride For The Red will begin at Thiel's Wheels in Upper Sandusky and end at the Red Cross B*A*S*H at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. All riders receive admission to the B*A*S*H. The route is 100 miles. Registration starts at 3 p.m. and the Ride For The Red begins at 4 p.m. Cost is $20 for one rider, $25 for two riders. Bring your friends and join us for a great Ride For The Red to the B*A*S*H!

An Important Discussion For Our Community
Post Traumatic Stress is a serious and dangerous condition that many veterans deal with every day. The Red Cross Armed Forces Family Network is joining with the Hancock County Veterans Services Office, the ADAMHS Board, Amvest Post 21 and The Toledo Vet Center to offer a PTS support group for veterans in Hancock County. There will be a community discussion about Post Traumatic Stress at the Armed Forces Family Network program on Thursday, July 19, 7 p.m. here at the Red Cross office, 125 Fair St. in Findlay. Touchstone Awarded Lima Reineke Nissan Dealership Project
Tom & Bill Reineke, owners of several auto dealerships in Ohio, recently selected Touchstone CPM, Inc. of Lima, Ohio as its Construction Manager for its new $1.5 million service department and sales building project in Lima. The project includes a new 9,000 square foot steel building, holding a state-of-the-art service department, which is being constructed behind the existing building at 1350 N. Cable Road in Lima. The new building will be operational by August 2012.

Farewell Reception being held to honor United Way CEO
The United Way of Hancock County board of trustees will host a farewell reception for Keith DuVernay, president & CEO, on Thursday, June 28 from 5-7 p.m. at the Findlay Inn & Conference Center, 200 E. Main Cross Street. DuVernay is relocating to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to take a position as CEO for SOS Children's Villages of Florida. DuVernay has been a part of the United Way of Hancock County for more than 25 years. He served as a volunteer in many leadership roles including three terms on the board of trustees and as past board chair. DuVernay has served as the organization's president & CEO since 2001.The reception is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
RED CROSS RESPONDS TO CHERRY STREET FIRE
A fire at a home on Cherry Street in Findlay left a family of four in need of help from the American Red Cross of Hancock County on Wednesday night. The family received aid for clothing, food, comfort kits with personal hygiene items and other immediate needs and will continue to get aid the family with information, resources and referrals for their long term recovery. All Red Cross disaster relief is provided free of charge, thanks to the generosity of the American people. US ARMY FIELD BAND JAZZ AMBASSADORS TO PERFORM AT RIVERSIDE PARK BAND SHELL
Start the 4th of July holiday early on Tuesday, July 3 with the internationally acclaimed U.S. Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors of Washington D.C. The Jazz Ambassadors will continue its long history of presenting free public performances when it appears as part of the 61st Riverside Summer Concert Series at Riverside Park's Allen P. Dudley Band Shell. The performance will take place beginning at 7:30 pm with an honor guard provided by Boy Scout Troop #308 from St. Mark's Methodist Church. Listen to local radio stations for any change in venue. In the event of inclement weather conditions, the concert will take place at the First Presbyterian Church located on South Main Street in Findlay.
FREE 4TH OF JULY WATERCRAFT RIDES AT ZONTA LANDING BOAT RENTALS
Celebrate Independence Day with the Hancock Park District at Zonta Landing Boat Rentals with a free ½ hour boat rental (canoe, kayak, pedal boat). Rides will be available the entire day Wednesday, July 4. Rentals will be available first come, first served with normal business hours being observed, 1:00 - 7:00 PM, as long as weather and river conditions are conducive for opening. HANCOCK COUNTY RED CROSS EXPANDS JURISDICTION
The American Red Cross of Hancock County announced today that the chapter has assumed jurisdiction of the Fostoria/Seneca County Red Cross. Todd James, Executive Director of the Hancock County Red Cross, says the change will strengthen Red Cross services and programs in both jurisdictions and is part of an ongoing organizational restructuring of the National American Red Cross. In January of 2011, Hancock County assumed jurisdiction of the Wyandot County office and will continue to oversee that area also. Blanchard Valley Hospital to Host American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention Study Enrollment
Blanchard Valley Hospital has partnered with the American Cancer Society to offer area residents an opportunity to change the face of cancer for future generations by participating in the American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). Enrollment days will be held Thursday, August 2 from 2 to 7:30 p.m. and Friday, August 3 from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the conference rooms in the Donnell Pavilion at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Come learn all about daddy-long legs, the long-legged and often misunderstood arachnid, at our monthly Discovery Stories on Monday, July 2 at 10am, 1pm and 7pm. These programs are designed for preschool children, ages 3 to 6, with an adult companion. Gardening Series: An Evening with Lavender
The Hancock Park District will be offering the third program of in the 2012 Litzenberg Gardening Series on Tuesday, July 3rd at 7 pm inside the Activity Barn at Litzenberg Memorial Woods.
Ann Boyd will be demonstrating many ways to use fresh and dried lavender. Advance registration is required to attend with a $6 fee per person at the HPD office by Friday, June 29. Birchaven Village Hosting Living with Alzheimer's Caregiver Series Event
Birchaven Village will host a Living with Alzheimer's: The Caregiver Series event on Tuesday, July 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Birchaven Village, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay. The program is ideal for family members and caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease or dementia.
The event speaker will be Lindsey Buddelmeyer who will present on the topic "What I learned personally and professionally while caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's/dementia."
The event is free and open to the public. No RSVP is required. Coffee and dessert will be provided.
