Applications Available for 2013 Hancock Leadership Class
Hancock Leadership, a program of the Findlay*Hancock County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Hancock Leadership Alumni Association, is a nine-month seminar program designed to strengthen leadership skills, broaden knowledge of the community and motivate participants to become involved in addressing community issues.

The program is launched with a mandatory retreat on a Saturday in late August. This will be followed by one full-day session per month, September through May. Many important local topics are covered, including Agriculture, Public Safety, Education, Health & Human Services, History and others. These sessions are usually held on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at various locations throughout the county. Class members are also required to take part in a service project that requires participation outside of regular class time.

In compliance with its code of regulations, the Chamber Advisory Board is seeking nominations.  Elected members would begin their terms January 1, 2013. The Chamber advisory board's purpose is to help lead the way for business advancement. The advisory board represents a broad cross-section of the business and professional leadership of the community.  They are responsibility for overseeing general activities for the Chamber of Commerce and initiating policies that are consistent with those and report to the Alliance Board of Directors

100 Fingers in Motion - Call for Artists! 

Window Painting Contest sponsored by The Gaslight Gallery and The Hancock Convention & Visitors Bureau. Paint a Great Race-related design on the window June 25-26. Prizes to be Awarded!

Artists can register at The Gaslight Gallery, 117 E. Crawford St. and be assigned a business to decorate. Painting instructions will be given at the time of registration. Paintings will be done on the outside of the windows, and must be completed between Monday, June 25 and Tuesday, June 26. Artists will design a painting which can include some background as well as an antique vehicle, or a design that is Great Race-related.  

 

If you are interested, register at The Gaslight Gallery. Only ten paintings will be done, and spaces will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone is invited to participate in a scavenger hunt to locate the paintings after they have been completed. Information regarding the scavenger hunt can be found at www.thegaslightgallery.net. Further information about the Great Race can be found at www.greatrace.com.
 

Good Samaritan Society - Arlington celebrates 40 years of service

The Good Samaritan Society - Arlington will celebrate 40 years of service in the Arlington community with a festival at 1 p.m. on June 24. Everyone is invited to the campus, located at 100 Powell Drive for food and a free Christian Concert by "Live Past Life."   Tours of the campus will be given by horse-drawn wagon rides. Mini Mosaic Bird Bath Class

The Power of Pollinators

Did you know that 75% of all the world's flowering plants and crops are pollinated by animals?  Our Power of Pollinators Open House will feature animals that serve a crucial role of plant reproduction.  This event will be at the "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center at Oakwoods Nature Preserve on Sunday, June 24 from 1-4pm.   At 1pm Rikki Youngpeter, Program Assistant, will give a presentation that highlights animals that pollinate, both locally and world-wide.

"Treasurer Mandel Launches ReEnergize Ohio for Small Businesses"

PRIMITIVE DRAWING WORKSHOP

Independence House Hosting Annual Classic Car Show

Independence House will host its annual classic car show Friday, June 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Independence House parking lot, 1000 Independence Road, Fostoria. Classic cars will be displayed and the event will include entertainment and refreshments. The show is free and open to the public. In the case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for June 22.

 

Blanchard Valley Hospital Earns Environmental Excellence Award

Blanchard Valley Hospital (BVH) has been awarded the 2011 Environmental Excellence Award from Sterilmed Inc. This means that BVH has been recognized as one of the country's best practice facilities in reducing environmental impact and improving overall health care sustainability through medical device recycling.

The Hancock Park District is offering the program "Who's at home?" on Sunday, June 10, at the McKinnis House. RED CROSS AIDS FAMILY OF SIX FOLLOWING FIRE, Also Provides Armed Forces Emergency Communication Services

A family of six is receiving aid from the American Red Cross of Hancock County after a fire drove them from their home on Cass Township Road 215 near Arcadia late Saturday night. The family of one adult and five children were immediately provided assistance for food, clothing, a portable crib and infant formula and Red Cross will provide shelter if it becomes a need. All Red Cross disaster relief is provided free of charge. Riverside Summer Concert Series

Riverside Summer Concert Series, held at Findlay's historic Riverside Park in the Allen P. FREE SUMMER YOGA SERIES OFFERED IN THE PARKS

Join Melinda Williams from Open Circle Yoga and Wellness Center for a free one hour yoga class in the beauty of nature on Saturday, June 2 starting at 8:30am at Riverside Park. All skill levels welcome, with no experience necessary.  If there is inclement weather, the program will be cancelled.  This series will be offered at various parks the first Saturday of the month in June, July, and August. Independence House Receives Bronze Award for Outstanding Quality Care

Independence House has been recognized as a 2012 recipient of the Bronze - Commitment to Quality award by the National Quality Award program, presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). Independence House received this honor for its dedication to improving quality care. The award will be presented to Independence House during HCA/NCAL's Annual Convention and Exposition, October 7-10, 2012 in Tampa, FL.

BVH to Host Annual Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehab Picnic

Blanchard Valley Hospital invites past and present rehab patients to the annual cardiovascular and pulmonary rehab picnic Tuesday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Shelter #7 at Riverbend Park.

Attendees should bring their own table service, drinks and a hot or cold dish to share. Hot sandwiches will be provided. Pre-registration is required and can be made by calling the BVH Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab department at 419.423.5153. 5KRun/Walk

There will be a 5KRun/Walk as part of its weeklong celebration on Saturday, June 16. The run will begin and end at the Riverside Park Waterfall Pavilion. The course will be routed along the river and throughout downtown. Pre-Registration must be postmarked by June 9. The entry fee is $15 and includes a commemorative bicentennial t-shirt. Summer job training available for area youth

Some Hancock County youth may be able to find a summer job this year with the help of a program operated by WSOS Community Action Commission, Inc. and JOBsolutions. The Summer Youth Program aims to provide income eligible teens who are either in or out of school with job placement for the summer months. Once the youth completes the training aspect of the program, an advocate will work to place the youth with an area employer for summer employment.
