Applications Available for 2013 Hancock Leadership Class
Hancock Leadership, a program of the Findlay*Hancock County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Hancock Leadership Alumni Association, is a nine-month seminar program designed to strengthen leadership skills, broaden knowledge of the community and motivate participants to become involved in addressing community issues.

HL2011

The program is launched with a mandatory retreat on a Saturday in late August. This will be followed by one full-day session per month, September through May. Many important local topics are covered, including Agriculture, Public Safety, Education, Health & Human Services, History and others. These sessions are usually held on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at various locations throughout the county. Class members are also required to take part in a service project that requires participation outside of regular class time.

Chamber Advisory Board Nominations Now Being Accepted

In compliance with its code of regulations, the Chamber Advisory Board is seeking nominations.  Elected members would begin their terms January 1, 2013. The Chamber advisory board's purpose is to help lead the way for business advancement. The advisory board represents a broad cross-section of the business and professional leadership of the community.  They are responsibility for overseeing general activities for the Chamber of Commerce and initiating policies that are consistent with those and report to the Alliance Board of Directors

66th Annual Hancock Safety Council Awards held May 17 

More than 40 Local Businesses Recognized 

 

Area businesses and organizations were honored for their safety achievements by the Hancock County Safety Council, a program of the Findlay*Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, and co-sponsored by the Bureau of Workers' Compensation, a Division of Safety & Hygiene. Through its relationship with Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, the Hancock County Safety Council reinvested $23,255.79 back into the local business community in 2011 through participation in the Safety Council Discount Program, with more than $6 million in savings state-wide.

 

Special Awards were presented to businesses accumulating at least 500,000 hours and at least six months without a lost-time injury. Businesses working for the entire year without a lost-time injury or illness were awarded the 100% Award and Group Awards were given to companies with the lowest incident rate in each group. Achievement Awards were presented to companies decreasing their incident rate by at least 25 percent from the previous year.

THE TROUBLE WITH MARRIAGE

Join Living History Interrupter, Lisa Hursey as she discusses the pros and cons of marriage in 19th century America on Saturday, May 26th starting at 10am, Doc" Phillips Discovery Center at Oakwoods Nature Preserve. This is an Adult Education Program and is recommended for ages 18 and up. There is no fee for this program, but register by Friday, May 25. Hancock Park District Offers Art In Nature

Come and enjoy learning how to make art out of things you find in nature with Sarah Crisp and other artists from Awakening Minds on Sunday, June 3, from 1pm to 4pm at the "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center at Oakwoods Nature Preserve. Those making art projects must register with $5 by Wednesday, May 30, at park office with exact change or check. Safe Ride Home BBQ Fundraiser

There will be a BBQ fundraiser on Thursday, June 14th from 4:30-7pm prior to the Bicentennial Parade at The Docks, St. Marks United Methodist Church, S. Main Street, Findlay. Pre-sale tickets are $7 and $8 at the door. Community Foundation Awards $262,599 in Grants

The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved grants totaling $262,599 at the May board meeting. This total includes five competitive grants totaling $218,400; one HancockREADS grant totaling $3,909; and twenty Hancock Education Fund grants totaling $40,290. Crescent Moon Hike

Join us for the Crescent Moon hike on Wednesday, May 23.  Come out and see the moon as a "waxing" crescent and find out what that means.  We'll also keep our eyes and ears open for owls, frogs and toads as we head out this May evening. The hike will be taking place at Litzenberg Memorial Woods at 8:30pm.  Please meet at the gatehouse by the parking lot. Bridge Hospice Hosting Camp S.T.A.R.

Bridge Hospice Bereavement Services will be hosting its annual bereavement camp for children, Camp S.T.A.R., June 11-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brugeman Lodge at Riverbend Park in Findlay. Camp S.T.A.R., which stands for Special Times Always Remembered, is a four-day bereavement camp for children ages 6-12 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Blanchard Valley Hospital Among Top 5% of U.S. Hospitals for Patient Safety for the Third Consecutive Year

Blanchard Valley Hospital has been named a recipient of the 2012 HealthGrades® Patient Safety Excellence Award™. This means that BVH has earned patient safety ratings that are in the top 5% of U.S. hospitals. This is the third consecutive year BVH has received this award. This year, Blanchard Valley is one of only 15 hospitals in Ohio and one of only 263 hospitals in the country to receive this designation. The HealthGrades Patient Safety Excellence Award is based on a study released by HealthGrades. RED CROSS RECOGNIZES VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS

Volunteers who help victims of disaster, provide support and resources to service members and military families and provide many other services for the American Red Cross of Hancock County were recognized Tuesday night donors who gave significant support to the chapter were also recognized during the event. Several volunteers were presented with awards for outstanding service. The Red Cross Hero Award was presented to The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation for exceptional commitment to the mission of the American Red Cross and support of the Hancock County Chapter.
