MCO Open Enrollment Now Underway

CompCompManagement Health Systems (CHS), co-sponsor of the Family-Owned Small Business Champion of the Year Award, is a partner with The Findlay-Hancock County Chamber of Commerce and the Managed Care Organization (MCO) we recommend to our members.  The Findlay-Hancock County Chamber's partnership with CHS allows us to provide our members with access to managed care expertise and maximum savings.  CHS helps members minimize lost work days and medical expenses related to their workers' compensation claims - ultimately improving their ability to control premium costs.

CHS has also achieved the highest average score among all MCOs in the Optimal Return-to-Work measurement from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC).  Compare CHS to your current MCO's performance.  Click here.

If you already use CHS as your MCO, you do not need to take any action to retain their services.  If you DO NOT currently use CHS, NOW is your chance to act.  BWC only allows employers to select an MCO every two years and the 2012 Open Enrollment period runs from April 30 through May 25.  This is your opportunity to upgrade your MCO services to CHS, and take advantage of their medical cost savings and return-to-work expertise.  Click here for a CHS enrollment form.

To learn more about what CHS can do for your organization, contact Jim Couzins at 888-247-7799, ext. 1719 or  CouzinsJ@chsmco.com.

Across Ohio the Construction Environment  is Changing. If you are a building owner or a facility or operations manager, and are planning a construction project in the next few years, this is a must attend seminar!

Long established construction project design and delivery practices for private projects are being abandoned with the promise of low prices and reduced project time schedules. Increased competition for fewer and smaller projects, is providing building owners with low initial prices along with frustrating and costly delays, changes, cost overruns and long term quality issues.

The State of Ohio is adopting a new approach to public construction projects that is poised to become a model for collaborative relationships between owners, design professionals and building contractors, and at the same time offering substantial financial savings and reduced construction time schedules to public building owners.

Look beyond the "Magic" and learn how you can be assured that you will get the best value for your construction dollars.
These and other current construction project delivery topics will be covered in this informative seminar.

Chamber Member Spotlight: The Arts Partnership

In 1979, The Findlay Area Arts Council (as it was formerly known) was founded by a group of 10 individuals whose purpose was "to encourage and stimulate the practice and appreciation of the fine arts among the people of the City of Findlay, the County of Hancock, and the State of Ohio." And 33 years later, they are still going strong, providing arts, education and entertainment... Read more here!

Study: Cost of Living in the City of Findlay Increasingly Affordable

Money-house

According to recent data, living in the City of Findlay has become a more affordable place to live since this time last year. The Cost of Living Index in the Annual Average 1st Quarter of 2012 was less than in 2011, according to the American Chamber of Commerce Research Association (ACCRA). The Q1 2011 average composite index of 96.9 was 6.4 points higher than the 93.5 percent average for Q1 of 2012.

In a national comparison, the City of Findlay's Q1 2011 composite index for grocery items was 102.6, a decrease of 1.4 percent from 2011; housing went up from 79.1 in 2011 to 82.1 in 2011, an increase of 3 percent; utilities went down from 101.8 in 2011 to 84.3 in 2012, a large decrease of 17.5 percent; transportation went down from 98.0 in 2011 to 95.6 in 2012, a decrease of 2.4 percent; healthcare - the only category to show an increase - went up from 90.7 in 2011 to 94.1 in 2012, an increase of 3.4 percent; miscellaneous goods and services went down from 108.7 in 2011 to 107.5 in 2012, a decrease of 1.2 percent .

Compared to other Ohio cities, Findlay's data showed that it offered more affordable healthcare than places such as Lima, Ashland, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, and also enjoyed lower utilities than Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Wooster, Ashland, Akron and Lima. Findlay's Grocery and housing costs were slightly higher than locations such as Dayton, Columbus and Lima, but lower than Cleveland and Akron. Overall, Findlay fares very well when comparing both state and national figures.

The Index is based on the six preceding components. Prices covering almost 60 different items are collected quarterly by chambers of commerce, economic development organizations or university applied economic centers in each participating urban area.

Compiled and published quarterly by The Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), Findlay-Hancock County was among the 306 urban areas participating in the Index which measures regional differences in the cost of consumer goods and services, excluding taxes and non-consumer expenditures, for mid-management lifestyles in participating areas.

The average for all participating places in each quarter equals 100 and each participant's index is read as a percentage of the average for all places. However, small differences should not be construed as significant-or even as indicating correctly which area is the more expensive.

For more information on the ACCRA Cost of Living Index, contact the Chamber at 419-422-3313 or

e-mail info@FindlayHancockChamber.com.

We are officially only 3 ˝ weeks from Boogie and 1 ˝ months from Wine Fest and we are still in need of many more volunteers for second shift Boogie and Wine Fest. These events cannot run without volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Lindsey Bowman with your name, phone number and email and mention what event you are interested in volunteering for Boogie, Winefest and/or Ribfest at Lindsey Bowman, Event Director, 419-422-3412 ext. 2 or event@artspartnership.com or www.artspartnership.com.
