Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
Open Arms and Huntington National Bank are proud to announce the 4th Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes®! Saturday, April 28 at Riverside Park in Findlay. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award, presented by the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA). This award goes to an employee of an Ohio hospital or health care system recognizing a hospital employee who demonstrates leadership, reflects the values and ideals of Ohio's health care facilities, goes above and beyond the call of duty, gives back to the community and has overcome odds to succeed. The recipient and four finalists for the OHA award will be announced at the annual OHA Recognition Dinner in Columbus on June 12. United Way Grants Funds to 28 Programs, 18 Agencies The United Way of Hancock County board of trustees approved grants during the monthly board meeting on Thursday, March 29. Grants were awarded to 28 programs offered by 18 partner agencies throughout the county. The amount granted to programs and services in the community totaled $1,706,578. Additional funds raised cover funds that are uncollectable, investor's choice funds, board reserves and operating costs. Birchaven Village Earns Highest Resident Satisfaction Score Among Findlay Long-Term Care Facilities Residents of Birchaven Village have ranked their satisfaction as the highest in Findlay, according to the 2011 Long-term Care Resident Satisfaction Survey released by the Ohio Department of Aging. The survey reports that the average long-term care satisfaction score statewide was 87.1 out of a possible 100. Birchaven's long-term care facility, Birchaven Village, earned a score of 93.0. This was the highest score of any long-term care facility in Findlay. In addition, assisted living residents at Birchaven Heights ranked the facility above state average. The 2011 Long-term Care Resident Satisfaction Survey was conducted by trained researchers and interviewers who met residents at each facility to fill out the survey. The Spring Sky The Millstream Astronomy Club will be showing a DVD about the spring sky on Saturday, April 21. Bring the whole family to Shelter #5 at Riverbend Recreation Area at 8pm. LEARN HOW TO GEOCACHE Geocaching is a high tech treasure hunt in which thousands of people participate every year. If you are interested in learning how to geocache, join members of the Northwest Ohio Geocachers, in cooperation with the Hancock Park District, on Saturday, April 21, at Oakwoods Nature Preserve. The program begins at 1 p.m. in the "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center. You will learn how to get started in geocaching, how to use a GPS unit, and how to find caches. New Documentary Film Shown at Oakwoods Connects Leopold to Modern Conservation Efforts The Hancock Park District will be hosting a public showing of Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time on Sunday, April 22, at 3pm inside the "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center at Oakwoods Nature Preserve. This is the first feature length (72 min.), high definition documentary film ever made about conservationist Aldo Leopold. There is no fee to attend. The viewing is appropriate for participants at least 10 years of age and space is limited. AMERICAN FOLK SINGER TO PERFORM AT OAKWOODS Join Bob Ford, an American Folk singer from Cedarville, Ohio, as he performs songs that were popular during the American Civil War. ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION PLANNED - Memorial Trees Welcome for Parks The Hancock Park District invites the public to participate in a local Arbor Day Celebration planned by the HPD and Findlay Flag City Arbor of the Gleaner Life Insurance Society at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 27 at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. For anyone interested in providing funds for a memorial tree to be planted within the Park District, arrangements can be made through the HPD office, with funds donated to the Hancock Parks Foundation. Join us on Saturday, April 28 for 2 programs at the "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center that will give you more information about frogs and why it's important to save them. Giving Circle Awards $37,716 in Grants Handbags That Help (HTH), a local women's giving circle, held their annual Celebration Meeting on Wednesday, April 11 at the Findlay Country Club. Program speakers included Katherine Kreuchauf, President of the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation and Judge Sharon Kennedy, Butler County Judge and Ohio Supreme Court Candidate. As part of the event, HTH awarded $37,716 in grants to three local agencies. BVHS Service of Remembrance to be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Findlay The eleventh annual BVHS Service of Remembrance will be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 120 W. Sandusky Street in Findlay on Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m. The non-denominational memorial service will honor BVHS patients and residents who died in 2011. All are welcome to attend the service, which will be followed by a reception. |
