Riverdale to Join the Hancock County ESC
During this current school year, the Riverdale Local Schools selected, and have received, a variety of services from the Hancock Educational Service Center as a "test-run" to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of these services. Since this initial transition year has been so very successful, beginning with the upcoming school year (2012-2013), the Riverdale Local Schools will become an official member of the Hancock County Educational Service Center/Schools and its current relationship with the Hardin County ESC will be discontinued effective July 31, 2012.

Bjorling Selected as United Way Distinguished Volunteer
United Way of Hancock County has announced that the late Jeri Bjorling has been selected to receive this year's Distinguished Volunteer Award. Bjorling will be honored at the upcoming United Way of Hancock County annual meeting on Tues., Apr. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Findlay Country Club. The event is open to the public and cost to attend is $30.00 per person, or $250 for a table of eight. Registration is available by calling the United Way office at 419-423-1432.
Help Us Halt Hunger in Hancock County! - Meals of Hope Food Packaging Event
The United Way of Hancock County's Halt Hunger Initiative is holding a Meals of Hope packaging event on Saturday, May 12th, in the Findlay High School Cafeteria from 9 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.. They are packaging 285,000 meals for those who are hungry in Hancock County. To accomplish this goal, they need 800 volunteers to make up 80 teams of 10 people each. Brothers of the Brush Competition to be Held
In celebration of Findlay's Bicentennial, The Hancock Historical Museum announces a beard growing contest to be kicked off March 30th at Findlay's Leisure Living Show. Registrations will be accepted for clean shaven beard growers the weekend of the Leisure Living show. Additional registration will be accepted at Alexandria's on April 2 from 5-7 p.m., and April 2-7 at Michael Eller Jewelers, and at Thiel's Wheels. Findlay Area Artists Exhibition to be held at Toledo Museum of Art
Entries are being accepted for an exhibition featuring the works of visual artists from Findlay and Hancock County in May of 2012 at the Toledo Museum of Art's Community Gallery. This exhibition is open to artists who live or have lived in Findlay or Hancock County. There is no cost to enter and each artist may enter up to 3 pieces of artwork, with at least one piece inspired by artist Jules Olitski. Becky's School of Dance Performance

Blanchard Valley Center/The Center for Autism and Dyslexia
In honor of the children in Findlay and Hancock County who live with Autism Spectrum disorder, the honorable Mayor Mihalik will proclaim April as Autism Awareness Month on March 30th at the Center for Autism and Dyslexia. In connection with this proclamation we would like the downtown businesses to participate in the Light It Up Blue global initiative. We are asking you to put blue lights in place of your current outside lighting or in lights left on inside your business during the month of April to help raise local awareness and support of autism. The Black Heritage Library & Multicultural will begin its spring "MULTICULTURAL MOMENTS"
Reading Program for pre-school age children to first grade starting on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 10:30am to 11:30am for five weeks at the Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center located at 817 Harmon Street, Findlay. Children will learn about other families' culture from different parts of the world through storytelling, craft activities, music and guest visitors. Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or other authorized adult. A community program will be held on May 26th from 1pm - 2pm to celebrate the children's "MULTICULTUARL MOMENTS". Multicultural Mystery Dinner and Program
April 22, 2012 from 3:00pm to 4:15pm. Families can experience a full course delicious dinner, dessert and beverage from a secret culture and heritage and a brief program provided by the chef! The dinner and program will be held at the Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center at 817 Harmon Street, Findlay. Dinner registrations must be made by April 22, 2012 by calling The Center at 419-423-4954. The donation price for adults is $10 and $6 for students. Children under 7 years of age are Free.
Cinco de Mayo Celebration
Cinco de Mayo Celebration will be held on May 5, 2012 from 11am to 3pm at the Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center located at 817 Harmon Street, Findlay. UNITED WAY FOUNDATION AWARDS SECOR SCHOLARSHIP
United Way of Hancock County's Secor scholarship committee has announced the selection of Mikayla Brown, a senior at Findlay High School, as this year's United Way Foundation Secor Scholar. The $2,000 renewable Secor Scholarship was established as a memorial to the Steven and Doris Secor bequest. Workshop on Community Building for Spiritual Care and Human Service Professionals Slated
Pastors, church leaders, youth ministers, parish nurses, chaplains, social workers and counselors are invited to attend a workshop on identifying and incorporating the gifts and talents of those with developmental disabilities. The event will be held Tuesday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Winebrenner Theological Seminary, 950 N. Main St., Findlay. Continuing education credits will be offered to those in attendance. HPD Receives $21,731 Grant from the Community Foundation
The Hancock Park District has been awarded a grant of $21,731.00 from the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation. The funds are made available from the Richard and Barbara Deerhake Fund, Ivan & Dorothy Gorr Fund, Pfeiffer Family Fund, and George Countryman Fund.
The grant will be used for the development of a Trails Master Plan that will identify potential trail routing throughout the community and showcase a conceptual trail map highlighting the proposed multi-use trail system. Community Gardens Hosting Spring Starter Seedling Sale
The Community Gardens of Hancock County will be hosting a spring starter seedling sale on Sat., April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the garden locations, 1800 N. Blanchard St. A free Bald Cypress tree sapling will be available for the first 250 guests. The seeds for the starter seedlings have been donated by Dollarseed.com and Jon Hart of MENTOR Initiative. The event is open to the public. Funds raised at the seedling sale will be used for supplies, fertilizer, fuel for equipment and other garden expenses. Volunteers are needed to help prepare for the event and on the day of the event. United Way Days of Caring Seeking Projects, Teams
United Way of Hancock County is seeking teams of volunteers and service project requests for the 18th Annual Days of Caring. To meet the needs of the agencies and the number of participating volunteer teams, United Way Days of Caring has been expanded to one full week, this year. They will occur April 30 through May 4. Friends Business Source announces 14 finalists for its 2012 Office Idol contest on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The general public may vote on who they think should be named the 2012 Office Idol between April 3 and 20 via friendsoffice.com. Nominations were accepted between March 1 and 30 from organizations' all over Ohio and Pennsylvania naming their top Administrative Professionals. Safe Ride Home - Chicken or BBQ fundraiser
Please Join Safe Ride Home on THURSDAY, JUNE 14th from 4:30-7 p.m. for a Chicken or BBQ pork meal held at The DOCKS at St. Marks UMC, South Main Street. Grand Re-Opening of the "Doc" Phillips Discovery Center
