Cost of Living  is Affordable for City of Findlay Residents

Money-houseAccording to recent data, living in the City of Findlay is still affordable even though some cost have increased since 2010. The Cost of Living Index in the Annual Average 4th Quarter of 2010 was slightly less than in 2011, according to the American Chamber of Commerce Research Association (ACCRA). The 2010 annual average composite index of 94.2 was lower by 2.4 percent compared to the 96.6 percent for 2011.

In a national comparison, the City of Findlay's 2011 Annual Average composite index for grocery items was 102.2, the same as in 2010; housing went up from 76.8 in 2010 to 80.2 in 2011 a increase of 3.4 percent; utilities went up from 96.0 in 2010 to 98.8 in 2011 a increase of 2.8 percent; transportation went down from 100.6 in 2010 to 98.3 in 2011 a decrease of 2.3 percent; healthcare went down from 91.1 in 2010 to 89.9 in 2011 a decrease of 1.2 percent; miscellaneous goods and services went up from 104.3 in 2010 to 108.3 in 2011 a increase of 4.0 percent .

Compared to other Ohio cities, Findlay's data showed that it offered more affordable healthcare than places such as Lima, Ashland, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, and also enjoyed lower utilities than Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Wooster and Youngstown. Findlay's Grocery and housing costs were slightly higher than locations such as Dayton, Columbus and Lima, but lower than Cleveland and several other cities. Overall, Findlay fares well when comparing both state and national figures.

The Index is based on the six preceding components. Prices covering almost 60 different items are collected quarterly by chambers of commerce, economic development organizations or university applied economic centers in each participating urban area.

Compiled and published quarterly by The Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), Findlay-Hancock County was among the 314 urban areas participating in the Index which measures regional differences in the cost of consumer goods and services, excluding taxes and non-consumer expenditures, for mid-management lifestyles in participating areas.

The average for all participating places in each quarter equals 100 and each participant's index is read as a percentage of the average for all places. However, small differences should not be construed as significant-or even as indicating correctly which area is the more expensive.
