Safety Council Rebates Distributed

Hancock County Earns $23,255.79

Hancock County area businesses are among the thousands Ohio employers that shared more than $6 million in savings through the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) Safety Council Rebate Program. Locally, $23,255.79 was reinvested into the business community through those participating in the Hancock County Safety Council, a program of the Findlay*Hancock County Chamber of Commerce.

The BWC's Division of Safety and Hygiene sponsors 93 statewide safety councils which inform participants of new safety techniques, products and services, and provide a thorough knowledge of topics, including occupational safety and health, workers' compensation and risk management education.

Eligible employers participating in BWC's Safety Council Discount Program can earn a two-percent premium discount. An additional two-percent performance bonus is available for employers that reduce either frequency or severity of claims by 10-percent or more below the previous year, or that maintain both frequency and severity at zero.

Community Foundation Week, November 14-18

The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation will join more than 700 community foundations nationwide as they celebrate Community Foundation Week November 14-18, 2011. For more than 20 years, the effort has raised awareness about the increasingly important role of these philanthropic organizations in fostering local collaboration and innovation to address persistent civic and economic challenges. As in years past, Community Foundation Week will coincide with National Philanthropy Day on November 15, 2011.

Community foundations represent one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy. Every state in the United States is home to at least one community foundation-large and small, urban and rural-that is advancing solutions to a wide range of social issues. The 2010 Columbus Survey found that despite the recession, grants awarded by the nation's 100 largest community foundations actually increased slightly in 2010 to $3.7 billion and exceeded prerecession levels seen in 2006 and 2007.
