Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Government Leadership Academy. The Academy is a ten week course to be held on Mondays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. beginning January 23, 2012.  It offers an educational opportunity for the purpose of encouraging, supporting and promoting good government through a curriculum geared toward leadership and decision making skills for both the public and private sectors. 

 

The Government Leadership Academy was founded in 2010 by the Findlay*Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Community Foundation and the Ohio State University Extension Service/Ohio Sea Grant.  The curriculum includes:  Public Service/Conducting Effective Meetings; Leadership Skills & Styles/Effective Decision Making; Building Sustainable Communities; Team Building; Intergovernmental Relations & Economic Development; The Ins & Outs and Ups & Downs of Running for Public Office; Communicating & Working with Citizens; Conflict Management & Dispute Resolution; Communicating & Working with the Media; and Ethics in Local Government

YIELD School Program to Focus on Don't Text & Drive Message

 

As Hancock County Sheriff's Office YIELD officers visit local schools this fall, the message will focus on the increasing problem of texting and driving.

 

In conjunction with the Remember Alex Brown Foundation, the sheriff's office and JYoakam Advertising have put together an initiative to educate young drivers and their families about the dangers of texting and driving.

 

YIELD, which stands for Young Individuals Educating Local Drivers, is a non-profit organization comprised of local law enforcement officers, adults and teenagers volunteering their time to educate the public on the importance of safe driving.

Lynn Army, Cliff Hite to Speak November 17 At Watershed Partnership Annual Meeting

Open to Public at University of Findlay at 6:30 PM doors open and the program begins at 7pm.

The Blanchard River Watershed Partnership will hold their 2011 Annual Public Program and

Annual Meeting at the University of Findlay Memorial Union. The event is FREE and open to the public. Blanchard Valley Hospital Trauma Center Hosting Gun Safety Event

The Trauma Center at Blanchard Valley Hospital (BVH), in conjunction with the Hancock County Sherriff's Office, is hosting a gun safety workshop Thursday, November 3 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital. This presentation and demonstration is free and open to the public. Gun locks will be provided to all who attend.

 

Winter Constellations

Want to see what constellations are out in the winter sky?  Then join Neil Stewart, of the Millstream Astronomy Club, at Riverbend Recreation Area.  Winter Constellations will take place on Saturday, November 5 at 6pm at Shelter 5. BVH to Host Annual Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehab Holiday Dinner

Blanchard Valley Hospital invites past and present rehab patients to the annual cardiovascular and pulmonary rehab holiday dinner Thursday, November 10 beginning at 4:45 p.m. in the Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital. November Feature at The Gaslight Gallery

During the month of November, The Gaslight Gallery will feature the work of member and co-founder, Janealla Smalley in a show titled "Life and Living." The opening of this show will coincide with the downtown Findlay ArtWalk on Friday, November 4, from 5:00-9:00. That show is in appreciation for parents who chose life for their children. ECLIPSe Partnership Seeks Service-Learning Grant Proposals

The ECLIPSe (Emerging Community Leaders Investing in Philanthropic Service) Partnership has announced that applications for their mini-grants are now available. Area youth, schools and youth-serving organizations interested in submitting a grant proposal can receive more information and an application packet by contacting Kimberly Bash, Senior Program Officer, at (419) 425-1100 or by going to the website at www.community-foundation.com. The deadline for these proposals is November 28, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.

 

Service-Learning Training Workshop

The Ohio Department of Education is partnering with ECLIPSe to present a two-day hands-on, service-learning training to the local community. The "Train-the-Trainers" workshop is designed to help educators, students, agency staff, and service recipients experience the benefits of participating in high-quality, curriculum-based service-learning programs that connect naturally with state standards. MOSS AND LICHEN WORKSHOP ID and Foray at Oakwoods

Come see the many shades of green in the world of moss and lichen on Saturday, November 12 from 10am-12pm, participants will meet at Oakwoods Nature Preserve, Discovery Center for a brief indoor introduction before venturing out on the trails, with the Toppins, for a fall foray.

The Hancock Park District is offering the program "An Evening with the McKinnis`" on Saturday, November 12 at the McKinnis House, located at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. Bridge Hospice Offering Holiday Memories Program through Group S.T.A.R.

Bridge Hospice is offering a Holiday Memories program for bereaved children ages 6 through 12 on Tuesday, November 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Campfire USA office, Findlay, and on Thursday, November 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Rotary Nature Center, 615 S. Wintergarden Rd. in Bowling Green. Dinner will be provided for the children. FBS decorates for non-profits

Friends Business Source (FBS) hosts a Halloween decorating contest on Monday, October 31 that also supports local non-profit organizations in Northwest Ohio and generates 470 responses from local communities. The winner of the contest was Cancer Patient Services (CPS) of Hancock County with 154 votes. They received a $500 credit in supplies from FBS.
