American Red Cross Tips Help Kids Stay Safe When Home Alone Develop and Practice Plan to Ensure Safety after School
As children around the nation are returning to school, many of them will be spending time home alone after school until their parents get home from work. The American Red Cross has steps parents and children can take to make these after-school hours safer and less stressful.

American Red Cross Babysitting
Many tweens and teens are responsible for watching younger siblings. The Red Cross Babysitter's Training course provides 11 to 15 year-olds with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly provide care for children and infants. Training Targeted Towards Local Nonprofit Community
Eastman & Smith Ltd., Attorneys at Law and Mosley, Pfundt & Glick, Inc., CPAs are partnering with the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation to present an important training to the local nonprofit community. The workshop will be will be held on September 30 at the Family Center, 1800 North Blanchard Street, Findlay from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided. A program entitled "Isaac Van Wart: Revolutionary War Hero" will be hosted by the Hancock Park District on Thursday, September 8 at 7 p.m. inside the Activity Barn located at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. Learn to Play Disc Golf at Riverbend Recreation Area
The Disc Golf Community Association is holding a Learn to Play Disc Golf Night on Tuesday, September 6, at 6:30pm. No prior disc golf experience is required to attend. In case of inclement weather, a rain date has been scheduled for Thursday, September 8. This event is provided in cooperation with the Hancock Park District. FALL BIRD MIGRATION Road Trip To Killdeer Plains
On Saturday, September 10 the Hancock Park District (HPD) will be leading a Fall Bird Migration trip to Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area, located in Harpster, Ohio about eight miles south of Upper Sandusky.Participants should meet at Riverbend Recreation Area, Big Oaks Parking lot around 7:45 am. FALL HAYRIDES OFFERED AT RIVERBEND
The Hancock Park District is now taking reservations for antique, tractor-drawn hayrides at Riverbend Recreation Area that will be conducted September 23 through November 6.
Reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis, the reservation is taken at HPD office located at 1424 East Main Cross, Findlay. A complete listing of hayride rules and information are available upon request at the HPD office by calling 419-425-PARK/7275 or downloading a hayride brochure at www.HancockParks.com.
Joseph Scholarship Supports Medical Missions
Applications are now being accepted for the Bradley Joseph Memorial Scholarship for Medical Missions. This scholarship will assist Northwest Ohio pharmacy and nursing students who wish to participate in medical mission trips in 2012. Applications and complete eligibility requirements are available online at www.community-foundation.com. Applications must be received by December 1st. ABC of Hancock County Hosting Eat, Drink and Be Healthy Event
ABC of Hancock County, the Alliance for Breast and Colon Cancer Awareness, Screening and Prevention, is holding a free event for the public called Eat, Drink and Be Healthy on Saturday, September 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Family Center, 1800 N. Blanchard Street, Findlay.
No RSVP is needed. The event will be held weather permitting.

The Hancock Park District is offering the program "Rolling in Dough" on Sunday, September, 11 at the McKinnis House which is located at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. FULL HARVEST MOON HIKE
Join Program Naturalist, Michelle Rumschlag for the Full Harvest Moon Hike on Tuesday, September 13 at 8:30pm. The hike will take place at Oakwoods Nature Preserve. We'll see what animals are out on the trails at night. We'll keep our ears open for owls and other night time creatures. Meet in the front parking lot by the bulletin board. Play Disc Golf at Night during the Mid-Fall Tournament
Everyone can join in unique disc golf fun and win numerous prizes at this Disc Golf Community Association event. The Mid-Fall Disc Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, September 10, starting at 4 pm. Bridge Bereavement Services to Offer "Understanding Grief" Workshop
Bridge Bereavement Services will offer a workshop for understanding grief on Thursday, September 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Beckett Meeting Room at Blanchard Valley Hospital. The event is for individuals 18 years of age and older and is open to the public.

LOCAL VOLUNTEERS JOIN HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS
Two local volunteers with the American Red Cross Hancock County Chapter are traveling to New Jersey to help the Red Cross relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Ruth Bordner and Helen Sanders will be traveling to Tinton Fall, NJ to join the relief operation. They will be working as Client Caseworkers, helping those affected by the storm and flooding. This is the second deployment in recent months for both women. They were also part of the Red Cross relief effort in Minot, ND in July. Those who want to help can click or text to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Donations can be made by visiting www.redcross.org, calling 1-800-REDCROSS, or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions can also be sent to the Hancock County Chapter at 125 Fair St., Findlay, OH 45840.

Discovery Story Pill Bugs
Hancock Park Districts' September Discovery Story will be held on Tuesday, September 12, at the Riverbend Recreation Area inside Brugeman Lodge. Discovery Stories are designed for children, ages 3-6 years old, with an adult companion. The program will be conducted twice at 10am or 1pm.
