Free Screening Mammograms to be Available in Hancock County
The Hancock County Mammography Screening Initiative (HCMSI) is a new program that will provide free screening mammograms to low- to middle-income men and women in Hancock County.
To qualify for the program, men and women must meet eligibility criteria related to age, breast cancer risk, household income, and health insurance coverage or a lack of health insurance.
For specific eligibility criteria or more information, call the Breast Health Nurse in EasternWoods Outpatient Center's Woman Wise Mammography department at (419) 425-3170 or visit www.bvhealthsystem.org and search for HCMSI.
HCMSI is funded by the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and The Community Foundation. The program is supported by Blanchard Valley Hospital, Woman Wise Mammography, and Imaging Consultants of Findlay.

Open House Scheduled for Hancock County Center for Safe & Healthy Children
The Hancock County Center for Safe and Healthy Children will be hosting an open house to celebrate their new location. The event will be on Tues., June 1 from 4-6 p.m. at 322 South Main  St. Refreshments will be served with cookies donated by Bread Kneads and coffee donated by Coffee Amici. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held with the GreaterFindlayInc's Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors.
The Center, which was formed in 2004, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to minimize the trauma experienced by child abuse victims by providing a child-friendly facility where representatives from Findlay Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff's Department, Hancock County Job and Family Services, McComb Police Department, Family Resource Centers, Hancock County and Findlay City Schools, Blanchard Valley Hospital, and the Hancock County Prosecutor's Office convene to investigate, treat, prosecute and prevent child abuse cases.
The representatives from those agencies, and two community members, make up the 11 person board.
The Center's focus is to better serve child abuse victims, however, the coordinated efforts of the investigative teams and the comprehensive treatment of child abuse victims resulted in a 9% increase in the number of cases referred for prosecution in the first year of operation.  It is believed that working as an investigative team and coordinating treatment for victims have the unintended result of better cases for prosecution.
For more information about the Center or regarding the open house, call  419-425-1475.

DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR HPD SUMMER DAY CAMP REGISTRATION
The Hancock Park District is offering exciting and educational opportunities for youth to explore nature and history this summer. Campers are still being accepted for Budding Naturalist Camp and Pioneer Camp. Register by Monday, June 7, with $25 per child. Space is limited. Register at the HPD office, located on 1424 E. Main Cross Street, Findlay.
Budding Naturalist Camp is being held, June 15 & 16, from 9am - 1pm.  Young children, 6 -8 years old, won't want to miss exploring the outdoors at Oakwoods Nature Preserve.  Become a tracking detective this year as we highlight animal tracks and signs.  Activities, crafts and games will be about tracks and how we know animals have been there.
P
ioneer Day Camp is being held, June 15 & 16, from 9:30am - 1:30pm.  Campers, 9-12 years old, get a taste of pioneer life in the 1800's as they learn pioneer skills, chores, and play 19th century games during this two day camp at Litzenberg Memorial Woods.  This year's camp theme will be "Exploring the Past." Campers will get a chance to make their own wooden boat and go on a treasure hunt for lost pioneer treasure.
Campers are provided with morning snacks, but are asked to bring a packed lunch. Each participant will take home a HPD Summer Camp backpack.
Registration forms are available at the HPD office or can be downloaded from the HPD website. Camp fee is required at the time of registration. No refunds will be given.
