Small Business Lending Seminar June 30, 2009 Findlay Country Club
GreaterFindlayInc. in partnership with local lending institutions will host a Small Business Lending Seminar on Tuesday, June 30
from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Findlay Country Club, 1500 Country Club
Drive. Companies with 500 employees or less are invited to attend this
complimentary program.
Speakers include representatives from the West Central Development
Corporation, Ohio Treasurer's Office, Hancock Regional Planning Commission and Blanchard Valley Port Authority.

Nominations Sought for Area Business Women
Huntington Bank and GFI Sponsor ATHENA Award
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2009 ATHENA Award. Sponsored by GreaterFindlayInc. and Huntington Bank, the ATHENA Award honors an exceptional woman who has achieved excellence in her business or profession, has served the community in a meaningful way and has assisted women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills.
The award will be presented in conjunction with GreaterFindlayInc.'s 46th Annual Small Business Awards on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Winebrenner Theological Seminary.
The Greater Findlay community
believes in the values underlying ATHENA's philosophy of incorporating the
talent and expertise of women into the leadership of our businesses, our
communities and our government. The spirit of the ATHENA Award program is
captured in a quotation from Plato, "What is honored in a country will be
cultivated there". By honoring exceptional leaders, others will be encouraged
to excel. The award takes the form of a hand-cast bronze sculpture symbolizing
the strength, courage and wisdom of the recipient.
First presented in 1982 in Lansing, Michigan, the
ATHENA Award has grown to include presentations to more than 5,000 individuals
in hundreds of cities in the United States
as well as in Canada, China, Russia
and the United Kingdom.
The Greater Findlay honoree will be invited to join the thousands of ATHENA Award recipients worldwide along with other business owners and professionals
at the annual International ATHENA Leadership Conference.

Board Nominations Now Being Accepted
In compliance with its bylaws,
GreaterFindlayInc. is seeking nominations for directors. Newly elected
directors will begin their terms January 1, 2010. The board of directors is
the policy making body for GFI and represents a broad cross-section of the
business and professional leadership of the Findlay-Hancock County community.
They are responsible for overseeing the organization's finances, reviewing and
acting on recommendations, and direct the general activities of the
organization. Ultimately, the board must assume the responsibility for seeing
that GFI's policy determinations are carried out.
GFI's Administrative Advisory
Committee also serves as the nominating committee and is led by Chairman Randy

BVH LABORATORY THIRD IN U.S. TO RECEIVE CAP 15189 ACCREDITATION
The Blanchard Valley Hospital Laboratory in Findlay,
Ohio is the third laboratory in the United States
to receive the CAP 15189 SM Accreditation to the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO).
The CAP 15189 SM Accreditation is a voluntary, non-regulated
accreditation to the ISO 15189:2007 Standard. Awarded by the College of American
Pathology, this accreditation is given to
laboratories that achieve the highest levels of operational systems
improvement, risk mitigation, and quality management.
Laboratories that receive this accreditation are certified
as providing the safest conditions for their patients.

PROGRAM TO FOCUS ON MANAGING DEBT AND
CREDIT-JUNE 25
The Hancock County Office of the Ohio
State University Extension will offer a workshop on "Managing Debt and
Credit" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 25 at the Hancock County
Agricultural Service Center, 7868 County Road 140, Findlay.
Roxie Snyder, financial counselor with Consumer Credit
Counseling Services, will present the program on managing debt and strengthening
your credit record.

HERBS OF THE 1800s PROGRAM FEATURED AT MCKINNIS HOUSE-JUNE

Hancock Park District will be offering the first in a series
of four gardening programs on Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m. The program will
take place at in the Historic
McKinnis House
Garden at Litzenberg
Memorial Woods.
A history interpreter will explain how settlers depended on
their herb gardens for their very existence in a time when herb gardening was a
necessity for medicinal remedies, culinary seasonings, cosmetics, perfumes
deodorizers, insect repellents and dyes. Afterwards, enjoy a refreshing
cup of tea.
Advance registration is necessary to attend with a $2 fee
per person by Friday, June 26 at the HPD office. Space is limited. Litzenberg Memorial Woods located on US 224
west of Findlay.

PRESCHOOLERS CAN "FLY" INTO A CICADA DISCOVERY STORY-JULY 6
Hancock Park Districts' July Discovery Story will be held
Monday, July 6, at the "Doc" Phillips
Discovery Center
at Oakwoods Nature Preserve. Discovery Stories are designed for
preschoolers (3-6 years old) with an adult companion. Meet at the Discovery Center at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., or 7 p.m.
This month's Discovery Story will explore the lives of
cicadas. Often mistakenly called "locusts", Ohio is home to both annual and periodical
cicadas. Children will explore this noisy insect of the summer through games,
hands-on activities, and a craft.

BLACK HERITAGE & MULTICULTURAL CENTER "ALL AMERICAN GIRL
PARTY"-JULY 11
The Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center (BHL
&MC) located at 817 Harmon St. in Findlay, will be hosting its annual
"All American Girl Party" on Saturday July 11, 2009 from 1pm-3pm.
This exciting event is appropriate for girls age 7 and
up. Attendees will be culturally enriched and experience the arts
& crafts and foods from different time periods and cultures. Girls can
bring their favorite American Girl or special doll for show and
tell! They will make and get to take home a variety of arts and
crafts. Each girl is asked to bring a light snack from their doll's time
period to share with others.
The "All American Girl Party" at the Black Heritage
Library & Multicultural Center will also include an exciting
Victorian Tea Party sponsored and donated by the Swan House Tea Room.

ARTS PARTNERSHIP YOUTHEATRE PERFORMANCE-JULY 13-17
Work with professionals from Missoula Children's Theatre and
star in the musical The Little Mermaid! The Arts Partnership's Youtheatre will
be held July 13-17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Findlay.
The camp is open to the first 64 students based on grade and
role availability. All students will audition and be cast in the musical, The
Little Mermaid . Sixty students will receive on-stage roles and four students
will serve as assistant directors. Auditions will be held on Monday and rehearsals
will take place throughout the week. When students are not rehearsing, they
will participate in age-appropriate performing arts workshops such as readers'
theatre, technical theatre, make-up, movement, improvisation, and theatre games
led by local teaching artists.
Public performances of Youtheatre's The Little Mermaid will
be held on Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 18 at 4 p.m. at First
Presbyterian Church. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

ARTS PARTNERSHIP LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE
The Arts Partnership has launched a new
website (www.artspartnership.com) to promote
arts-related events in the community. The project was partially funded through
a Capacity Building Grant from the Ohio Arts Council.
The new site allows for videos and photo galleries. It
also addresses a strategic goal of educating the community about programs
offered that impact local youth.

RED CROSS HONORS VOLUNTEERS AND HEROES
AT ANNUAL MEETING
On June 11, the American Red Cross
Hancock County Chapter held its 2008 Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition
Dinner at the Hancock County Agency On Aging Senior Center. During the event, new officers and members
were elected to the Board of Directors for fiscal year 2010, beginning July
1. Dave Cytlak, CFO of Blanchard Valley
Hospital will serve as Chairman, Pat Sadowski of Eastman & Smith, LTD will
continue as Secretary. Kim Field, a
local businesswoman, was elected to a three-year term to the Board. Outgoing Chair Jason Stall was recognized for
his six years of service on the Board.
The Chapter presented several awards
to volunteers and supporters during the event.
Service Awards were presented to volunteers marking 5, 10 and 25 years
of service. Those receiving awards
were: Walter Baney, Kent Johnson, Beth
Linhart, Tina O'Dell and Jeff Wobser - 5 Year Award; Darlene Baney, Judy Erven
and Shelia Stooksbery - 10 Year Award and Frank Parcher was recognized for 25
years of service.
The Chapter presented two
Extraordinary Personal Action Awards.
This award is presented to an individual who saves or sustains a life by
action that exemplifies the mission of the American Red Cross. Julian Miles and Maurice Shultz, both of Findlay, received the
award.
The Red Cross Heroes awards, a new
award given by the Chapter were presented to State Representative Cliff Hite,
Marathon Petroleum Company LLC and the Findlay Wal-Mart stores.
CASA VOLUNTEERS SWORN IN
Voices for Children: Court Appointed Special Advocates of
Hancock County would like to congratulate Laurie Bentley, Chrystal Terry and
Kristi Comstock on completing their 40 hours of pre-service training to become
Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers.
Hancock County Juvenile Court Judge Allan H. Davis conducted
the swearing-in ceremony at Camp Fire
USA on
Wednesday, June 17th. These new CASA volunteers are now responsible for serving
as guardians ad litem and a voice in the court for abused, neglected and
dependent children. These volunteer Advocates will collect information about
each child and then submit their findings to the judge in an objective court
report.
Voices for Children: Court Appointed Special Advocates of
Hancock County is a non-profit organization that relies on the community for
both financial support and volunteer participation. If anyone is interested in
learning more about how to become a volunteer Advocate, orientations are being
held on Thursday, July 1 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 21 from 11:30
a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 13 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday,
August 19 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Please call 419-424-3262 to reserve your seat. Pre-service
training will begin in September.
"PIT
STOP" SPONSORS SOUGHT FOR CAR TUNES ON MAIN-AUG 22
"Car Tunes on Main",
the United Way Community Kickoff, is set for Sat. Aug. 22, from 11 a.m. to
midnight. The planning committee is seeking local businesses and organizations
interested in being placed on the community cruise which takes place from 11
a.m. to 2 p.m. Locations who choose to be a "Pit Stop" sponsor will be listed
on a map that will be published in The Courier
and online at http://cartunesonmain.org.
Pit Stop sponsors will also have the option to display at the downtown car show
on Main St.
The downtown car show takes place from 3 p.m. to midnight. Cost to be a Pit
Stop sponsor is $500. Other sponsorship levels are also available.
Spectators will also be encouraged to visit Pit Stop
locations. Last year, many of the Pit Stop sponsors offered food, music and
more as an additional draw for the cruisers and the public. For more details on

Last year the event brought more than 20,000 people and over

OWENS EXPANDS EDUCATIONAL
OPPORTUNITIES WITH TRAINCO, INC.
Owens Community College's
Workforce and Community Services on Findlay-area Campus is announcing new
academic opportunities for Findlay area residents within the career field of
truck driving by expanding its partnership with TRAINCO, Inc. in Perrysburg and
affording individuals the chance to receive college credit while enrolled in
the national company's Professional Truck Driving
Schools and Career Centers.
The initial truck driving educational training opportunities will begin in July
on the Owens Findlay-area Campus.
As a result of the new
expanded collaboration, students pursuing their commercial driver's license
(CDL) through TRAINCO, Inc. will also be able to apply the educational training
and experience achieved toward an associate's degree in technical studies or a
related field at Owens.
Each student will receive
five college credit hours from Owens upon completion of their CDL training at TRAINCO.
Classroom instruction
BEGINS July 6 and covers such areas as logbook maintenance, road map
comprehension, stress management, nutrition and road rage. Hands-on training
includes driving maneuvers, coupling and uncoupling and progressive shifting, as
well as urban, rural and interstate driving skills.
In addition to the new
educational training opportunities offered in Findlay,
Owens and TRAINCO also affords individuals the chance to receive college credit
while enrolled in the national company's Professional
Truck Driving
Schools and Career Centers
through the College's Toledo-area Campus.
