OFFICIAL 2008 SMALL BUSINESS PARTNERS
|
The GreaterFindlayInc. professional staff and Board of
Directors extend to you the warmest thoughts and wishes for a happy holiday season
and prosperous New Year.
|
Good Afternoon, All:
This morning,
Steve Schroeder called Mayor
Sehnert, and then myself. The Cooper plant in Findlay will not be closed as a result of their
North American Capacity Study. We owe significant gratitude to the workers at
the plant who clearly understood the economic reality of today's global
marketplace, and to our Cooper Task Force.
As a partnership for growth, GreaterFindlayInc. will continue to
fulfill its mission by helping all of the businesses in the
Findlay/Hancock County community grow and prosper.
Please find GreaterFindlayInc.'s advertisements in the Thursday, December 18 and Saturday, December 20 editions of The Courier to publicly thank the Cooper Task Force and the United Steelworkers Local 207L. Visit www.greaterfindlayinc.com for more details.
Thank you for all of your support. I
look forward to working with all of you to build a healthy economic future for
Findlay and Hancock County.
Appreciatively,

GreaterFindlayInc. Funding Finalized at City Council Meeting
On Tuesday, December 16, the Findlay City Council approved the resolution authorizing Mayor Sehnert to enter into a
contract with GreaterFindlayInc.
In 2009, the City of Findlay will provide GreaterFindlayInc. with
$50,000 in funding to provide economic development services for
Findlay/Hancock County.
This figure will be negotiated
for 2010, using the historical base funding level of 50% of the transient guest
tax as a baseline. The agreement includes an option to
extend the agreement for a third year.
GreaterFindlayInc. voluntarily accepts this reduction in funds, taking a nearly 75% reduction compared to City department's
reductions of 9%. The public-private
partnership of GreaterFindlayInc. eliminates duplicative management and
allows leverage of marketing resources. This leverage also allows Findlay
and Hancock County to enjoy services of a well staffed economic
development organization, seasoned executives and use of a
sophisticated retention analysis tool.

FINDLAY HANCOCK COUNTY HABITAT
FOR HUMANITY TO BEGIN CONSTRUCTION IN MAY
The
alliance between Habitat for Humanity
International and Thrivent Financial for
Lutherans continues to build hope for low-income families amidst economic
difficulties as the mortgage crisis unfolds nationwide. Since 2005, it has given more than 1,000
families an opportunity to achieve the American dream of homeownership. In 2009, Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity
will contribute more than $24 million to help build another 314 affordable
homes in 37 states and the District
of Columbia. Hundreds of local Habitat affiliates
will build these homes alongside members of Thrivent Financial and other
community volunteers.
Locally, Findlay/Hancock County Habitat for Humanity
affiliate has been awarded $55,770, or 65 percent of the funds necessary, to
build one home in 2009 through the alliance.
Construction will begin in May in Findlay's
West Park community for Kelley Weyer and her
family. The Weyers will invest at least
400 hours of "sweat equity" helping to build their home. In addition, this home will be built by area
volunteers, of whom at least one-half will be Lutheran and one-fourth will be
Thrivent Financial members. This is one
of four homes planned to be built by the Findlay/Hancock County Habitat for
Humanity affiliate in 2009.
Since the inception of the Thrivent Builds alliance, the
Findlay/Hancock County Habitat for Humanity built one of the more than 1,000
Thrivent Builds homes constructed across the nation in 2008. In 2009, they join 225 other Habitat
affiliates to build the 314 homes funded.
Thrivent Builds with
Habitat for Humanity supports Habitat home-building in the United States and abroad through
its Thrivent Builds Homes and Thrivent Builds Worldwide
programs. To learn more, visit www.thriventbuilds.com, www.habitatfindlay.org or
