GreaterFindlayInc. Board Member, Lynn Child states the current position
of GreaterFindlayInc. An updated summary of the interview follows. Click here to listen to the complete interview.
Search Process
"At
this point in time we are going through the second phase of our search
process. We have the intentions of interviewing three individuals this
week. Because of the public-private partnership, we have private
business owners as well as Mayor Senhert and Commissioner Ed Ingold on
our search committee. So, as we move forward we are going to continue
to search for the very best candidate." Click for more
Structure Update
"Part of what we do as an organization, we pull in the appropriate entities to help. It's not just GreaterFindlayInc. We do need
one focused group to focus working towards economic development and
community development. But, as we are moving forward, we need to pull
in the city, the mayor, the commissioners, regional planning-all the
different groups that love our community. So many of us care and are
dedicated and what we are doing is creating a dialogue to talk about
these things to make sure that we have the very best structure-I
personally believe GFI is that structure." Click for more

The Four Secrets to Referrals Networking Tips from Debby Peters, CNP Guru, debby@certifiednetworker.com
Recently, someone told me that they had joined a networking group but were considering discontinuing their membership because they hadn't received a referral in several months. While I sympathized with the person wanting to attract more clients, I explained that networking groups do not always produce instant gratification. There are many factors that influence networking between referring members and potential clients including:
1.Cost. Patience is especially necessary if there is a considerable price tag on your sale. The fact that the price tag is fairly costly means that referring members of your network will want to be very sure before they recommend your services to clients and friends. A referral gone bad will make the referring member look equally bad. Their reputation is on the line and the cost makes it that much more risky.
2. Credibility. Members of a network base their referrals on credibility. Do you arrive on time or even early at each meeting? Do you come prepared and follow up on your commitments?
3. Contributions. Don't always rely on the members of your network. How do you help to make the group better? Do you volunteer for jobs, bring guests to the meeting if appropriate and display a positive attitude?
4. Consideration. Are you considerate of the group members? Do you give referrals to the seasoned members or are you just a taker, only coming to the meeting to see what you can get?
Referral networking groups can certainly add to a business' bottom line. But it doesn't happen overnight. The secret is in removing the dollar sign from your eyes and doing what's necessary to earn the privilege of your members' referrals.
Keep these rules in mind during the next Business 2 Business Networking event held 8:30-10 a.m. on Thursday, September 25 at Owens Community College, held in conjunction with JOBsolutions Career Expo.
Cost is $15 for Members and $20 for non-members. To register contact GreaterFindlayInc at 419-422-3313 or rsvp@greaterfindlayinc.com. |
