Findlay Ranked As American Dreamtown By Bizjournals

Set out to find America's "dreamtowns," Bizjournals ranked Findlay, Ohio as the nation's 36th most attractive micropolitan area.

In a study inspired by the heavy public interest in small-town life, Bizjournals analyzed the nation's 140 micropolitan communities to identify areas that would be most attractive to people when considering a move.

Micropolitan areas, as defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, are smaller than metropolitan. Each micro consists of a central city, town or village with 10,000 to 50,000 residents, surrounded by a county or cluster of counties that are economically dependent upon it. Bizjournals analyzed America's 140 micros that had 2006 populations of 65,000 or more (encompassing the central community and surrounding area).

Using a 20-part formula, Bizjournals identified the small towns that offer the best quality of life without metropolitan hassles. The highest scores went to well-rounded places with light traffic, healthy economies, moderate costs of living, impressive housing stocks, strong educational systems and easy access to big-city attractions.

The top three of America's "dreamtowns" include: Torrington, Conn.; Bozeman, Mont.; and Lexington Park, Md.

For more information, including a complete ranking of the 140 micropolitan areas click here.

Be Informed. Be the Difference. Healthy Families Act Resources

The Ohio Healthy Families Act is headed for the November ballot and will impose significant new burdens on Ohio employers. The OHFA requires most Ohio employers to provide 7 paid days off to full-time employees and a pro-rated amount to all part-time employees. If not carefully implemented, it may grant to all employees 7 NEW paid days off. The law is poised to exacerbate abuse problems that many employers already experience with other leave laws, particularly the Family and Medical Leave Act, and will severely impact productivity and scheduling of labor. The Act contains troublesome "carry-over" language and forbids employers from seeking evidence to substantiate that most leaves are legitimate. Like the FMLA, it allows leave to be taken in small increments. Finally, employees can sue for any violation and recover actual damages, interest, treble damages, and attorneys' fees.

For more information regarding the Healthy Families Act contact GreaterFindlayInc. at 419-422-3313 or visit www.greaterfindlayinc.com.

"Drop the Data"-Sept 16
Learn How to Easily Protect Customer Payment Card Data & Reduce Liability to Your Business

Are you a business that offers customers the convenience of credit card or debit card payments? Learn how to protect your business from the dangers of storing payment card data at "Drop the Data" Sept. 16 at the Athletic Club of Columbus.

Brought to you by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Visa Inc., "Drop the Data" is a national tour that educates small to medium size businesses about the risks of retaining prohibited credit card data and how to protect your business (and customers) from having this data stolen.

Think this is a problem just for big businesses? Think again. Increasingly, small businesses are being targeted by these sophisticated and relentless criminals. In fact, small merchants accounted for more than 80 percent of the data security breaches in 2007, according to Visa.

While few small business owners can also claim to be security experts, there are some easy steps that can be taken to reduce your risk and protect your businesses and your customers.

The event will be held from 8:45-10:30 a.m. in which experts from Visa and the Chamber will outline the risks of retaining cardholder data and provide an easy-to-understand plan of action for your business.

"Drop The Data" is a nationwide tour presented by U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Visa, Inc. along with the Ohio Chamber, the Ohio Attorney General's office and 11 other participating local Chambers of Commerce. "Drop the Data" is a sponsored event so there is no cost to participate.

FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES GRANT PROPOSAL DEADLINE
The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation announces that the next competitive grant proposal deadline is Friday, September 5, 2008 for review at the November board meeting. Grant proposals are reviewed four times a year by The Community Foundation board of directors.

The Community Foundation issues grants to tax-exempt, private agencies classified as 501(c)(3) organizations, public charities as defined by the Internal Revenue Service. Grants may also be made to governmental agencies. The programs considered for support must be located in the Greater Findlay area or provide a service that will directly benefit the residents of Greater Hancock County.
Creative programs designed to meet community needs, to address public policy priorities, or to test new ideas will be considered. Contact Marty Rothey, Senior Program Officer, at 419-425-1100 or visit www.community-foundation.com for more information.
