Ohio's Businesses Against Gov. Mandated Paid Sick Leave
A government-mandated paid sick leave proposal that will
kill Ohio's jobs and endanger businesses is coming to the ballot this
November.
The campaign working to defeat this proposal, Ohioans to
Protect Jobs and Fair Benefits, is working tirelessly to educate businesses on
this issue by having them sign up for more information. By
signing, you will be affirming your opposition to the government-mandated paid
sick leave proposal that will likely be on the ballot this
November.
Government-mandated paid sick leave is a
job-killer:
Requiring employers to add paid sick leave is a threat to
pay, benefits and jobs. The proposed mandate imposes significant added costs
on employers, who will be forced to make up the difference somewhere, including
reductions in other benefits, pay and even jobs. Some employers may even be
forced to balance their costs by increasing the contributions employees pay for
their healthcare coverage.
Even employers who already offer paid sick leave will be
seriously penalized by this proposal. This proposal allows employees to take
sick leave with little or no advance notice in increments as small as an hour or
less, posing a serious threat to production stability at process-dependent
employers like assembly line manufacturers and staffing-critical operations like
hospitals, nursing homes and day-care facilities.
The increased cost of paying for sick leave will result in
more expensive goods and services. While employers in the short term will
need to shuffle benefit packages to pay for this mandate, the long-term result
will be increased costs of goods and services.
This proposal interferes with the established relationship
between employers and employees at some of the nation's most successful
businesses. Many companies now operate under long-standing policies that
provide employees with good pay and benefits in exchange for work arrangements
that ensure a continued high level of production. This proposal guts the
employer-employee relationship and threatens the production stability achieved
during years of mutual cooperation.

Return Your Messages and Maintain Your Credibility! Networking Tips from Debby Peters, CNP Guru, debby@certifiednetworker.com
Credibility is the quality of being believable or
trustworthy. Recently I've run into a patch of people who have damaged their
credibility because they do not return phone calls. Unlike a prospecting cold call, these are
people I've met at an event and even had a short conversation with.
We are all busy, but not returning a phone call or an email is
just plain rude. It also affects the
credibility of the person who is not returning that phone call. The message they are sending is that if I
refer my best client to them, they are demonstrating how they might treat
communication with that very client in the future.
Credibility is
easy to destroy and takes way too much time to rebuild. Networking
credibility is the diligently won reputation we develop when we do what is
polite, ordinary or even extraordinary. Our credibility
is destroyed when we decide not follow up with someone. Even if you don't have time, or don't want to talk with the
person who called, a brief message stating you're currently unavailable at this time will help you save face. Plus, it's the right thing to do.
Keep these rules in mind during the next Business 2 Business Networking event held Thursday, Aug. 21, 8:30-10 a.m. at Triple T Bed and Breakfast, 6717 TR 215, Findlay. To register contact GreaterFindlayInc at 419-422-3313 or rsvp@greaterfindlayinc.com.
Save the Date: Certified Networker will begin a 12-week course beginning Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the GreaterFindlayInc. Boardroom. To register for the class, contact Debby Peters at 419-833-5128.
