GFI Presents Ohio Healthy Families Act Workshop-Aug. 21

Attorney at Law, Tom Dixon Explores Proposed Law

On Thursday, Aug. 21, GreaterFindlayInc. will present the Healthy Families Act Mandated Sick Leave Workshop, conducted by Thomas A. Dixon, Attorney at Law, Eastman & Smith LTD. Targeted towards companies with 25 plus employees, this program will explore the major aspects of the law, update the status of the ballot petition and address strategies for dealing with and avoiding unfortunate fallout from its adoption.

The Ohio Healthy Families Act is headed for the November ballot and will impose significant new burdens on Ohio employers.  The OHFA requires most Ohio employers to provide 7 paid days off to full-time employees and a pro-rated amount to all part-time employees.  If not carefully implemented, it may grant to all employees 7 NEW paid days off.  The law is poised to exacerbate abuse problems that many employers already experience with other leave laws, particularly the Family and Medical Leave Act, and will severely impact productivity and scheduling of labor.  The Act contains troublesome "carry-over" language and forbids employers from seeking evidence to substantiate that most leaves are legitimate.  Like the FMLA, it allows leave to be taken in small increments.  Finally, employees can sue for any violation and recover actual damages, interest, treble damages, and attorneys' fees.

Date: Thursday, August 21, 2008
Time: Noon-2:30 p.m.
Location: Findlay Inn and Conference Center located at 200 E. Main Cross St., Findlay
Emcee: Dave Tippett, PHR, Director, On-site Training and Consulting Employers' Association
Cost: $25 per person and includes lunch.

Seating is limited to the first 30 people. Advance registration is required and cancellations must be made 24 hour in advance.

To register contact GreaterFindlayInc. at 419-422-3313 or email rsvp@greaterfindlayinc.com. Visit www.greaterfindlayinc.com for more information.

Rules for One2One Meetings
Networking Tips from Debby Peters, CNP Guru, debby@certifiednetworker.com

Sometimes there is confusion as to what should happen when two people sit down with each other to chat.  A few misguided souls think this is the time to sell.  Instead they should use this time to develop a business relationship with the other person.  After all, those who like you will probably do business or send business your way.

Here are three rules to help make One2One meetings go smoothly.

1. No one person should do all the talking.  While it doesn't need to be 50/50, each person should walk away feeling like they've had a chance to be a part of the conversation.

2. These meetings are not designed for selling.  In fact, if you take this as an opportunity for a sales presentation the other person might run away from you when they see you next time.

3. Your focus in the meeting should be on how you can help the other person.  It takes listening to do this.  Figure out to whom you can introduce them to, events to invite them to, or even just provide an ear they can use to test their ideas.

Keep these rules in mind during the next Business 2 Business Networking event held Thursday, Aug. 21, 8:30-10 a.m. at Triple T Bed and Breakfast, 6717 TR 215, Findlay. To register contact GreaterFindlayInc at 419-422-3313 or rsvp@greaterfindlayinc.com.

Save the Date: Certified Networker will begin a 12-week course beginning Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the GreaterFindlayInc. Boardroom. To register for the class, contact Debby Peters at 419-833-5128.
