Frieda Portrait

Frieda

The matriarch or "lead mare" of the HEAL herd, Frieda is known for  her assurance & regal bearing.  Frieda has owned Leigh for 20+ years.  She is a reflection of strength, authority and wisdom for students at HEAL.

Greetings to friends & new friends of HEAL!

"Thank you" to the veterans and members of America's Armed Services! Happy Veterans' Day!

This is our first HEAL Newsletter to emerge on the quarterly schedule.  I last wrote to you in August, and summer seems so long ago!  I had a great time presenting at  Prescott College in AZ where students in Counseling Psychology can focus in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy!  Then I was off to England, where HEAL classes were assisted by two HEAL FTP '08 graduates - Charmaine Lane and Matney Cook.  Time was full with sessions and trainings, but I enjoyed a few days of R&R with Sam Quinlan from the LEAP Centre.  From all corners  there is evidence of greater acceptance and sophistication in EFP/L.  It was an interesting summer! I hope our new  acquaintances are reading this- please keep in touch and become part of our world-wide community!

Back at the HEAL Ranch, autumn brought unexpected and important changes for our colleague Kathleen Barry Ingram (see next article).  My husband David Young and I moved out of our Bishop winter residence - electing to stay in Washington full-time for ongoing clients and therapy groups. We're also working on a book about the HEAL Model™ of EFP/L, based on a decade of research and practice using EFP for recovery from trauma and related disorders.  Look for our book in 2011!

**Here is the biggest news**

It is with pride and affection that we announce the graduates of the HEAL Facilitator Training Program 2010.  Their individual profiles will inspire, impress and inform you!  Get to know these outstanding EFL practitioners and visit their websites, perhaps schedule a session!  And look for more articles about EFL from these HEAL graduates in our upcoming HEAL Newsletters  (next issue is February 2011).

Things slow down a bit here during the winter holiday season, giving David and I time to "run deeper" with our own creativity and our personal friendships, including friendships with our horses.  The time spent caring for and training the horses (and continuing to let them train me!) reminds me of an elemental truth: relationships are process, not outcome.  By  definition they take time and investment.  Love is a practice, not "just" a feeling.

We value input from our readers and invite you to write in with viewpoints and questions. Please send them to us at news@humanequinealliance.org.

Blessings and Gratitude,
Leigh

upwardWell Wishes to Kathleen Barry Ingram in Transition to a New StageLeigh Shambo, Kathleen Barry Ingram & David Young

Kathleen Barry Ingram, a co-creator of the HEAL Facilitator Training Program (FTP), has decided to resign from the FTP faculty.  Kathleen had a serious accident on the eve of her return from England in September.  Her right ankle was broken badly, requiring surgery.  Kathleen is now challenged with a process of rehabilitation, and in addition is planning a move from Tucson to Flagstaff, AZ to be closer to her family.  Kathleen will continue her work as a guest teacher and elder in EFL programs around the world, and in Arizona.  We wish her all good in her new directions as well as continued success in EFL.  Visit Kathleen's website, send her your own well-wishes and sign up for her newsletter at www.sacredplaceofpossibility.com

Leigh Shambo and David Young will carry on as joint faculty for the HEAL Facilitator Training Program in 2011 by accepting a smaller, more clinically focused cohort.  The FTP will continue in its 5-month format, starting and ending with one week of on-site study and practice at the HEAL Ranch in WA State, USA.  Between these on-site weeks students  commit to distance learning that includes EFL practice sessions, study assignments, conferences and mentoring calls.  The HEAL Model™ gives practitioners sound and sophisticated principles to guide EFP/L treatment and education for adult and child clients . The HEAL Modelis especially suitable for clients with a trauma history, and it can help heal horses with a trauma history as well!  Visit our website www.humanequinealliance.org or contact us directly at events@humanequinealliance.org for more information.
