Greetings!,
The Laredo Chamber of Commerce will host a gala event to recognize volunteers on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at the Laredo Country Club. Richard R. Valls, Jr., Chairman of the Board for FY 2007-2008, will present awards and recognitions to the many volunteers who assisted in carrying forth his program of work during the past year. Valls will also take opportunity to present a "state of the Chamber" report acknowledging accomplishments of his administration.
The lunch program, which is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., will form part of the regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting. As is traditional, the program will also serve to introduce the incoming Chairman of the Board and the new slate of officers.
Traditionally, following the recognition of volunteers, the outgoing chairman calls on the new chairman and presents him/her with the gavel. The new chairman then closes the meeting as his/her first official action of the new year. |
Following is the list of recognitions and awards to be presented by Chairman Rick Valls:
Jim Parish Media Award - to be presented to The Laredo Morning Times for continued support to the Chamber throughout the year.
Un Poquito Más Award -- Presented to Esther Firova, for continued support to the Chamber mission. Firova has proudly promoted the image of the Chamber in her various role(s) outside of the organization.
Committee Chairperson of the Year - Presented to Terry McGraw, who reorganized and reenergized the Bienvenidos Committee, the "first face" of the Chamber; and
Special recognition to Federico 'Kiko' Trevino for dedication to the Chamber ideals through his involvement with the Cola Blanca Big Buck Contest, and the Chamber Board of Directors, in general.
"Comeback Kid" Recognition Award -- Presented to Manolo Sanchez and LNB BBVA. The Comeback Kid Award is presented annually to an individual or group that has been an active volunteer in the past and returns to take an active role in Chamber work. LNB, an active member for years with the Chamber, returned with renewed energy in 2007-2008 under the leadership of President Manolo Sanchez.
Benefactor Award - Presented to Greg Morgensen, Family Chevrolet, who exemplifies the Chamber spirit through his commitment for Chamber projects.
Ramiro Sanchez Spirit of Laredo Award -- Presented to WBCA, for their untiring dedication to promote a positive image for Laredo.
Order of Los Dos Laredos Award - This year presented to Consul General of Mexico Miguel Angel Isidro, an individual who, although relatively new to the community, accepted the challenge to promote Laredo's image as leader in global trade.
Recognition in Honor of Max Mandel - Presented to Congressman Henry Cuellar, who on a daily basis mirrors the work and dedication of an individual who worked incessantly for a better Laredo.
Building Bridges Award - Presented to Margaret Martin, who has worked incessantly behind the scenes to maintain lines of communication open for the Laredo business community and representatives of government at the state and federal levels. | |
