Want to register for an
upcoming Chamber event? Need to take care of your membership dues? Or are you
interested simply in finding out what the daily exchange rate is for dollars vs.
pesos? Well, now you can take care of all that by simply visiting the Laredo
Chamber's web site -- www.laredochamber.com.
The Laredo Chamber, as part of
a new initiative, launched an upgraded version of its web page on October 1 of
this year. "People visit sites for information. But the more sources of
information you provide, and the more efficient you become in doing it, gives
viewers a reason to come back," states Robert Eads, Chamber VP of
Operations/COO, who supervised the expansion of the system.
Aside from offering the
traditional access to Chamber-related information, the new site offers:
· Direct registration and payment
processing on line · Membership Directory listings with
links to member webpages and maps for
directions · Listing of upcoming
events · News Ticker · Listing of upcoming
events · Currency
Converter · Direct link to U.S. Chamber web
site for access to its member services · Polling Site (capability to
conduct surveys on line)
Before the end of the year, the
site will also add a 'Stock Market' ticker to be able to
provide the members with instant and relevant information on Chamber member stocks. In addition, a Live Help Desk will come online that will enable a live discussion with online visitors and our Chamber staff in order to provide information about our members or their services. Check the Chamber's
new line of services at www.laredochamber.com. |

Veterans Day
|
Veterans Day History
World War I officially ended on June 28, 1919, with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. The actual fighting between the Allies and Germany, however, had ended seven months earlier with the armistice, which went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. Armistice Day, as November 11 became known, officially became a holiday in the United States in 1926, and a national holiday 12 years later. On June 1, 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all U.S. veterans.
In 1968, new legislation changed the national commemoration of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October. It soon became apparent, however, that November 11 was a date of historic significance to many Americans. Therefore, in 1978 Congress returned the observance to its traditional date.
Thank you to all veterans. We realize that our freedom is not free. |

Happy 232nd Birthday Marines |
" The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!"
Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945
"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem. " Ronald Reagan, President of the United States; 1985
