Laity Sunday - October 21
This year's theme is "Disciples Transforming the World through Service and Witness."  This theme is exciting because it's exactly what we are called to do, to witness to the world as we fulfill our call to be Christ-like in these difficult economic times. To witness to the world that we believe in a risen Lord, the Savior of the world! The only one who can bring peace and security to our hearts.

Wesley Woods Site Director Announces
New Chapter

After 17 years with Wesley Wood Conference Center, Jeff Fry is leaving his position for a new challenge in his life along with his wife.

"We have become Foster parents and look forward to helping as many children as possible for the rest of our energized years. I pray for Wesley Woods and Reynoldswood as they have and will always have a deep setting in my heart," wrote Fry.

The Northern Illinois Conference thanks Jeff and wishes him and his family all the best in this new chapter in their lives.

Support a CROP Hunger Walk
Near You

Hunger affects close to one billion people around the world, and it hurts children the most. But we can change that - together.

Over the next two months, 80 communities in Illinois will join together with more than 1,000 communities in the U.S. to help end hunger. This means support for local food banks and soup kitchens, as well as long-term, sustainable solutions for families all around the world.

If you haven't already gotten involved this year, please find a CROP Hunger Walk near you or call the Illinois CWS office at (630) 200-4572.

Click here for more information on 27th Annual Rockford Area Crop Walk.

Appointing the Child Advocate

As the Northern Illinois Conference enters into the busy season of charge conferences, we at United Voices for Children know that church leaders are working hard to prepare all of the necessary documents, tell the story of the local congregation's life, and solidifying leadership rosters. There is one important position that each local church must prayerfully appoint:  the local child advocate (LCA).

UVC Board members and staff are available to assist you. Located here is a copy of the job description for the LCA in the form of a covenant agreement. If you desire further information about appointing this critical church leader - please e-mail UVC at Umvoices4kids@yahoo.com, or call 224-587-3611.

Greetings from China
