The Northern Illinois Conference welcomes our new Bishop Sally Dyck effective Sept.1, 2012. The North Central Jurisdictional Episcopacy Committee assigned Bishop Dyck to the NIC for a four year term during the NCJ Conference in Akron, Ohio on July 19, 2012. 

A welcome celebration is planned for Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012

NIC Young Adult Young  to be Commissioned for Mission

 

uS2 interns The class of 2012 will be commissioned as Mission Interns and US-2s on August 3, 2012, at 7:00 pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.   

 

Beth McRill from Roselle UMC will be among those commissioned. She will be placed with Mission for Migrant Workers in Hong Kong.

Beth is from Streamwood, IL, and grew up in a church that gave her a firm grounding in faith and in the importance of mission. She took part in mission trips and began to consider mission service while in college. Beth holds a degree in international relations from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, with minors in Japanese and religion.  

  

The commissioning service will be available via webcast. US-2s serve in the United States for two years. Mission Interns serve for three years, approximately half of the time abroad and half of the time in their home country. The class of 2012 represents nine countries and will be serving in 17 countries and ten annual conferences. Read more >> 

  

Seeds to Succeed - August 11, 2012

Visit the site, click on 'event details' and volunteer for a project of your choice. If your church is coordinating a project, please have your volunteers register. Each volunteer will receive a free t-shirt. If they don't have computer access, please email the names and t-shirt size to Anne Marie Gerhardt at agerhardt@umcnic.org

We are still collecting backpacks and school supplies over the summer. Visit www.seedstosucceed.org for supply lists and  drop off locations. Click on 'donation drop off'.

Celebrations are planned for several locations including anti-bullying workshops at Marcy-Newberry and Hilltop Ministry Center. Visit the website for details.

Safe Sanctuary Training  - Aug. 18

 

The Northern Illinois Conference Safe Sanctuary Committee is offering a Conference-wide training for local church volunteers, staff and leaders on Saturday, August 18

 

Although this training is centered on the local church, the training would give all NIC connected committees, groups, institutions, or children's organizations thebasic principles to keep children, youth and vulnerable adults safe in all events.

 

The training day will begin at 8:00 am with registration

at Our Saviour's United Methodist Church,

Volunteers and supporters of Justice For Our Neighbors are seeing God each time they work with immigrants seeking legal help.  The stories from those who come seeking help will move you and your congregation. 

 

On Sunday, September 16, our immigration legal clinic, JFON, will host a fundraising dinner featuring Bill Mefford of the General Board of Church and Society.  But the keynote will be the stories of the transformational work with immigrants and their families.

5445 S. Harlem Ave, Chicago, IL   

 

Come to the Celebration!  Tickets are $50 and a free will offering will also be taken.
