Happy Aldersgate Day!

John Wesley
John Wesley
274 years ago, John Wesley had left a Moravian society meeting where Luther's preface to the Romans had been read. As he walked on Aldersgate Street, he felt his heart strangely warmed by the Spirit. It forever changed him....it created the movement called Methodists...and it changed the world. Here are some of the words he wrote in his journal that day...

I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone, for salvation; and an assurance was given me that he had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death - John Wesley

Change the World
Richard Rice and Ron Johnson from Woodridge UMC collect electronics as part of Saturday's Recycling Extravaganza sponsored by The Woodridge Rotary Club.

Many churches in the Northern Illinois Conference participated in the United Methodist Church's global movement to Change the World last weekend. People lived church in their communities - going out to serve, and personify the love of Christ.

Woodridge UMC participated in the Rotary Club's electronics recycling extravaganza. Marengo UMC sponsored "Support Our Park" planting and cleaning at local park. Other examples, Genoa held a child literacy event and Neighborhood UMC in Maywood held a Stop the Violence conference.

Action Alert: Stop Prison Privatization
Bishop Hee-Soo Jung and NIC delegates participated in a rally at General Conference to stop prison privatization.

The Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) wants to come to Illinois.  The nation's largest private prison operator wants to build a 800-bed immigration detention center in Crete, just south of Chicago.

The Illinois General Assembly is now considering SB 1064, which would block CCA from building the Crete center and other private detention facilities.  SB 1064 passed the Illinois Senate on a bipartisan vote on March 28. Now we need the House to join their colleagues in standing up to dangerous private prisons like Crete. Take Action Now!
