UM VIM Trip to Bolivia Planned

The Northern Illinois Conference (NIC) is offering a UM VIM trip to Bolivia beginning July 31 through August 14, 2012.  The emphasis of the trip is beginning construction of a Resource Center for Leadership within the Ancoraimes District of the Iglesia Evangelica Metodista de Bolivia (IEMB) Church.

The cost is $56 until May 13. Beginning May 14 the cost will be $75. All online and mail-in registrations must be complete (to the office by May 28).

Rooms are still available at Pheasant Run Resort under the NIC block  - note the Tower is sold out. The cost is a special negotiated rate of $102 + 11% tax for a total of $113.22 per night.

Collection Drives
Church World Service is collecting Hygiene Kits, School Kits, Baby Care Kits or Emergency Clean-Up Buckets at Annual Conference. The challenge is for each congregation to make at least 30 Kits!  Look for the truck at Pheasant Run Wednesday, June 6 and Thursday, June 7.

CWS will ship the kits to the warehouse for free but a gift of $2 per kit will enable the kits to get to those in need. Checks can be made to CWS and brought to the truck.

Bring a Backpack
Bring new, sturdy, gender neutral backpacks to the Seeds to Succeed display table at Annual Conference.  We will distribute the backpacks at the Conference-wide Back to School event on August 11, 2012.

Happy Mother's Day- May 13

This Mother's Day, the Healthy Families, Healthy Planet project is calling on all United Methodists to honor mothers and their sacrifices by educating their congregations about maternal health.  Read full story>>

A great way to get the conversation started is by planning a Mother's Day Worship Service or organizing a pre-worship event on maternal health.  For information on planning a Mother's Day Worship Service check out the Healthy Families, Healthy Planet website at www.umchealthyfamilies.org.


Concert to Benefit Retired
Filipino Clergy

"Great is Thy Faithfulness," a dinner concert by the Granadosin Brothers, will be held May 12 at 5pm at Glenview UMC, 727 Harlem Ave., Glenview, IL. In line with the Central Conference Pension Initiative, this concert will help create a stable retirement fund for Filipino Clergy who currently have no retirement fund.  

It is sponsored by Glenview UMC, endorsed by the General Board of Pensions in Cooperation with the Filipino-American United Methodist Ministry of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. Concert tickets are at $12 (adults) and $5 (children).

Early Response Team Training
June 1 or June 2 , 2012

If you would you like to be one of those trained United Methodists responding with UMCOR, then take advantage of the opportunity to attend one of two Northern Illinois Conference Early Response Team trainings.

June 1 from 8:30-5:00pm at First UMC Glen Ellyn, 424  Forrest, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 or June 2 at Cornerstone UMC, 41W170 Russell Rd., Elgin, IL 60124. 

Classes are taught by "authorized" UMCOR trainers, and team members are given ID badges as evidence of training. UMCOR Staff will teach us the why, when and how of responding to disasters in our local communities as well as elsewhere in the US and globally.
SPACE IS LIMITED TO 20.

World Fair Trade Day - May 12

The World Fair Trade Day is an initiative of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) that takes place on May 12, 2012.

It is a worldwide festival of events celebrating Fair Trade as a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty, climate change and the economic crisis that has the greatest impact on the world's most vulnerable populations.
 

Summer Camp Staff Needed

Do you know any hard working college age youth? Summer camp counselors are still needed at Reynoldswood Christian Camp and Wesley Woods Conference Center. We are currently looking for female applicants. Potential summer staff members should have at least one year of college, be mature, love working with children, and be willing to share their love of God.

The Northern Illinois Conference Committee on Nominations is currently seeking to fill several positions to serve as chairs and members of committees in the next quadrennium.  This is a great opportunity to utilize your spiritual gifts and abilities in a wide range of conference ministries.
