I found this (thanks to GBCS) on the sidewalk walking back from the Tampa Convention Center to the hotel last night. In the first three days, General Conference has been uplifting, inspirational, tiring and interesting.

On the plane flight down to Tampa, I overheard people talking about United Methodists and the conversation continues.

I am meeting and seeing United Methodists from all over the world, speaking in many different languages, but all coming together with one purpose - to serve an Awesome GOD! Alleluia!

UM VIM Trip to Bolivia Planned

The Northern Illinois Conference (NIC) is offering a UM VIM trip to Bolivia beginning July 31 through August 14, 2012.  The emphasis of the trip is beginning construction of a Resource Center for Leadership within the Ancoraimes District of the Iglesia Evangelica Metodista de Bolivia (IEMB) Church.

General Conference Underway
in Tampa, FL


NIC General Conference DelegatesThe  2012 General Conference opened in Tampa, Fla. on April 24 with an inspiring worship service. All the NIC delegates, volunteers, visitors and staff arrived safely and are busy at work. On Wednesday, Chicago Southern District Superintendent and Clergy Delegate Chair, Rev. Dr. Tracy Smith Malone was elected Chair of the Church & Society Legislative committee. World Malaria day was uplifted also on Wed. Read more about a surprise flash dance mob that swarmed the Conference. Wednesday also included the Episcopal, Laity and Young People's addresses.

All plenary sessions, which include worship services and major addresses, are being streamed live at www.gc2012.umc.org
and daily updates and photos are available on the NIC website at www.umcnic.org/gc2012.

The Northern Illinois Conference Committee on Nominations is currently seeking to fill several positions to serve as chairs and members of committees in the next quadrennium.  This is a great opportunity to utilize your spiritual gifts and abilities in a wide range of conference ministries.

Creative Ministries Grant Deadline May 1
The Northern Illinois Conference Program Council is accepting applications for Creative Ministries Grants to help fund new ministry projects in 2012. 

Thanks to your apportionments a dozen grants were awarded last year.  A couple of examples include, Faith UMC Chicago which planned to use the money for an after-school drop-in center and Grace Calvary UMC needed funds for a health and fitness ministry.

2012 NIC PAUMCS Spring Workshops in the Districts

PAUMCS 101: You Are Not Alone

Wednesdays: May 9, 16 & 23

9 am- 2:30 pm

 

The District Superintendents are encouraging church office staff members to participate in the Spring workshops offered in May by the Northern Illinois Conference Professional Association of United Methodist Secretaries (PAUMCS). The workshop PAUMCS 101: You Are Not Alone will be in held in each of the Districts this year in an effort to bring the resources of PAUMCS more accessible to all of our church office staff members.  

 

The cost of the workshop is $10 per person (includes lunch & materials), payable to NIC PAUMCS at the workshop. Click here for pre-registration, locations and more information. 

 

Workshop to focus on helping Harrisburg recover from tornado

Rev. Bryan Crousore, an emergency response specialist with Church World Service, will conduct a free workshop on "Long-Term Recovery from Disasters" for clergy and community members who are helping people affected by the February 29 tornado in Harrisburg, IL.

 

The workshop will take place on May 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ, 930 West Cherry St., in Marion, Ill.
