Spring Mission Trips
|
The Hub Cluster of the DeKalb District recently participated in their 6th trip to the Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina. On March 24-April 1 the team of 13 volunteers traveled to Foley, Alabama working with Habitat for Humnanity. "We replaced floor joist, tore out old floors and replaced sub-floor, removed the old damage deck and built a new one," said Bill & Leah Vanstone of Rochelle United Methodist Church. "We were blessed as a team by all the money our churches raised to send us and felt used by God to be a 'Good Neighbor'". The nine churches that represent the Hub Cluster are: Rochelle, Reynolds, Lighthouse, Franklin Grove, Esmond, Creston, Chana, Ashton, and Steward. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
During spring break week of 2012, March 25-31, 16 folks from Christ UMC, Deerfield, and 2 from Glenview UMC journeyed to the Red Bird Mission in Beverly, KY for a week long work camp.
On the first work day the group divided into two work teams. One group went to the home of an area resident where they built an 8 X 10 foot deck, installed 14 new windows and a new flue for the kitchen stove. The other group put a new roof on one of the group cabins at Red Bird. All of the assigned jobs were completed.
