B1 - one being, being one
|
Is your church interested in a youth event that teaches about mission, hunger, malaria, and how the United Methodist Church is doing ministry with those who are poor? Consider B1. It's an event where youth select a challenge - such as fasting from food or taking a digital fast - and then ask for sponsors. Youth also choose a United Methodist sponsored project that is helping hungry and needy people throughout the world. Along the way, a youth group can learn about the United Methodist Advance, missionaries, and our church's efforts to combat the diseases of poverty and do ministry with those who are poor. All of the materials for B1, including a step-by-step planning guide, are available online ... click here. If you would like a speaker or help coordinating a B1 event, contact Rev. Michael Mann at mmann@umcnic.org.

NIC Laity Convocation
|
 | Rev. Larry Hollon |
Rev. Larry Hollon, General Secretary of United Methodist Communications, addressed a crowd of more than 300 people at the 2012 Laity Convocation at First UMC Elgin last Saturday. The day included worship and music with Divine Impact, lunch and closing worship and communion with Bishop Hee-Soo Jung. Rev. Hollon presented ways the church can tell its story and find new ways to be relevant in an emerging culture. "Relevance is our ability to listen to the needs of the world, the hurts of the people and translate our faith understanding in ways to address those needs," said Hollon. You can find Rethink Church tips and tools at www.umcom.org/rethinkchurch.
