Appeal for Flood Relief Help in the Dakotas Conference
|
 |
Building materials gutted from the inside the home of Jess and Amy Morse line the street in front of their house in Minot, N.D.
|
At a recent meeting, the College of Bishops of the North Central Jurisdiction approved making an appeal to all of the conferences in our Jurisdiction for help with the flooding in the Dakotas Conference.
"While we realize that many Annual Conferences continue to deal with various disasters and needs, the recent flooding in the Dakotas Conference deserves the response of all United Methodists in our Jurisdiction - due to the extensive nature of the flooding and due to the limited resources available to the Dakotas Conference."
Minot, North Dakota is an example of the extensive nature of this disaster, with 4100 homes destroyed, 6 schools impacted, 3 area food pantries wiped out, and 24 congregations across 4 counties having their buildings destroyed.

Annual Conference Evaluations
| Annual Conference 2011 ended June 11 and after a brief respite, your Annual Conference Committee has begun work on Annual Conference 2012. The first order of business for the committee was to tabulate all of the data on the evaluation surveys completed by AC members. As chair of the ACC, I want all members to know that the response for each question was examined and all comments were read. I appreciate the time you took to fill out the survey and want you to realize that we use the information in the surveys to help us examine and improve what we do to make the subsequent year's Annual Conference better. read the full story by Mark Manzi>> |

Mental Illness Awareness Week
|
Mental illness is often a hidden disability, so few congregations are aware of the persons in their pews who are affected, either directly or as family members of those living with mental illness.
According to current statistics, in any given year, more than a quarter of adults will experience some form of mental illness. These illnesses also affect family, friends, and employers.
Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 2 - 8, 2011. The United Methodist Task Force on Disability Ministries, a program of UMCOR Health, is offering churches resources they can use to help improve their ability to recognize mental illness and increase responsiveness to it. Read more.
Your gift to Disability Ministry, UMCOR Advance #3021054, helps the task force carry out and expand its ministry.
