Summer Mission Trip Highlights
|
A team from U MC of Antioch served at Grace Children's Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti for one week in July. The team helped at the in-patient ward where children stay for about two months while they're being treated for tuberculosis and other health issues. The team also helped with the reconstruction of a home that was destroyed in the earthquake. Before the trip church members contributed supplies for hygiene kits which the team assembled in Haiti and distributed to a tent city serviced by the community health workers from the hospital. Each morning the team lead devotions for the patients and families at the hospital and enjoyed learning and singing a popular Christian song in Creole. The team came away from the experience blessed by the faith and hospitality of the Haitian people as well as a deeper appreciation for their many blessings and an increased desire to help others. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 20 participants from Christ UMC Deerfield (16 persons) and North Shore UMC Glencoe (4 persons) traveled to Central UMC in Detroit for four days in July for a return mission trip.
The group painted a gym on the 5th floor of a church building. The church is starting a new youth and young adult ministry that will use this gym for its meeting place. These two churches are committed to go back again next year. If you have photos or videos from your church's summer mission trip...we'd love to share them. Email them along with details to communications@umcnic.org. |
