General Conference News

10-Fold

Did you know that The United Methodist Church has a goal of building 400 new churches by 2012? And many churches in the United States are helping with this effort.

This Sunday, July 10, throughout the day, go to 10-fold.org/live to hear Global Ministries' Director of In Mission Together, Patrick Friday discuss The UMC's commitment to building new churches, some in parts of the world where United Methodists are going for the first time.

You will also hear from the people who are leading the efforts in Russia, Cameroon, Senegal, and Latvia.

There will be a live chat at 5:00 pm ET so you can ask questions or chat throughout the day with others who are interested in this project.

On the 10th of each month,  10-fold.orgwill feature a different Advance project, and we will hear from people closely involved who will report on the progress that is being made around the world. Check back regularly to learn more.

HopeFest 2011

Help make September 11th a day of HOPE!

Three Northern Illinois Conference Churches are currently participating in HopeFest 2011 on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, including First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge, First United Methodist Church of Des Plaines and New Hope United Methodist Church in Chicago.

This is a 'Rethink Church' event. All are invited to join the team! Together, we will honor the 10th anniversary of the World Trade Center/Pentagon attacks with a day of solemn remembrance and HOPE-affirming volunteer action across our community.

The day's activities will include tributes to local first responders, as well as blood drives, family friendly CPR classes, disaster response/relief class, food pantry collections, clean-up and repair projects, and elderly care for our local nursing home residents.

Whether it's just one hour or the whole day, it's your chance to embody HOPE by giving back to your community!
