|
The 6th Annual Interfaith Dinner sponsored by the Northern Illinois Conference and the Council of Islamic Organization of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) was held last Thursday evening at Northwestern University. Award winning print and broadcast journalist, Judith Valente, was the keynote speaker. She spoke on how the Face of our Faith is portrayed in the media and how we can reform often times negative perceptions, especially toward Muslims, through our actions.

The event drew together a crowd of "religious diversity" including students, pastors, lay persons and Northwestern University leaders from several backgrounds and faiths. At one table, a United Methodist, Jew and Atheist gathered. Across the room, a Muslim and Presbyterian shared in conversation.
Bishop Jung recognized the "Declaration of Relationship" signed in 2006 by the Northern Illinois Conference and CIOGC, which states as Muslims and United Methodist Christians both will commit to a spirit of peace and cooperation. "Together we can embrace harmony and love," said Bishop Jung.
