Legislative documents are now available for download from the conference website. These documents will be discussed in Legislative Sections during Annual Conference. It is expected
that members to Annual Conference will read these materials ahead of time in order to participate in holy conferencing around these important issues.  Each lay member and clergy person has been assigned to a section to discuss specific documents. However, members should read all documents in advance. A list of those assignments are also available online.

National Day of Prayer

Today May 5, 2011 is the National Day of Prayer.

On this day we are called to pray for:

  • Our country's leaders- the President, Vice-President, Congressional leaders
  • Your state Governor and elected officials
  • Your mayor
  • Civil Servants and volunteers
  • Your community and neighbors
  • Those working for peace in their communities and throughout the world
  • Our Troops and their families

In light of recent events and the death of Osama bin Laden we encourage your continued fervent prayers for wisdom, for peace, and for healing.  We also encourage you to pray for everyone affected in the storm and flood ravaged areas in our state and nation.

 NIC-VIM Mission Fair- May 7

All are invited to a Mission Fair from 2:30-5:30pm this Saturday, May 7, at Woodrige UMC.  This fair will feature a time for displays of Volunteers in Mission trips and a time for worship.  Come and see what's been happening with Volunteers in Mission!

Bishop Daniel Arichea from the UMC Manila Episcopate in the Philippines will celebrate at the worship service.  This worship will include a special celebration of Filipino ministries in the US.  A special time of Philippine dance and music will also be included.

Displays will feature the stories and photos from Volunteers in Mission (VIM) trips from this past year and before.  Displays from Haiti, Bolivia, and the Philippines will be included.  Displays will open at 2:30pm and will be open again after the worship.

Admission is free and a collection at worship will benefit the Central Conference Pension Initiative for overseas UMC pastors and deacons.

For more information, contact Carol Meynen (cmeynen@gmail.com) or Rev. Michael Mann (mmann@umcnic.org)

UMCOR COMMITTED TO STORM-RAVAGED SOUTH

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) underscored its "absolute commitment" to communities that have been impacted by this year's historic spring storm season, even though the organization's US Disaster Response funds are extraordinarily tight.

UMCOR head, the Rev. Cynthia Fierro Harvey, appealed to United Methodists and other people of goodwill, who are the source of these funds, to help replenish them and ensure UMCOR's ability to continue to respond to the spring storms emergency. Participants attend a workshop at the Rx Connexion event

This past weekend, the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission - North Central Jurisdiction (UMVIM-NCJ) held an RxConnexion at First United Methodist Church Glen Ellyn. The purpose of the event is to offer training and share information on ways to improve total community health here in the U.S and around the world.

This annual meeting is held in different locations throughout the Jurisdiction, and this year it was in the Northern Illinois Conference on April 30.  Participants were welcomed by Rev. Tom Potenza of First, Glen Ellyn.  Resident Bishop Hee-Soo Jung led the morning devotion.

The theme was "Turning of the World - at home and abroad," emphasizing that holistic health offers a different kind of ministry.  It improves not just the health of a few people but of a whole community. Read the full story>>
