In our own lives, as we near the end of our Lenten journey and anticipate the joy of Easter morning, we are reminded of another moment in time when the earth shook and our world was forever redirected. In the wake of Christ's resurrection, the good news of God's sacrifice for our sins has become an ageless message of hope and the promise of life eternal. Youth Learn to Be One, One Being

Thirty-five youth from the Northern Illinois Conference United Methodist Churches gathered at Glenview UMC on Friday, March 25 to B1: One Being, Being One. From 6 PM Friday to 6 PM Saturday, they fasted, their only sustenance coming from water and the Spirit. Some of their time together was spent in worship - singing praises to God. Their primary focus during this B1 event was to learn about the needs of the people in the Congo. Read more...

One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offerings are used to pay the administrative expenses of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). This allows 100% of offerings made to the Advances, like the Japan Emergency to be used to pay for the supplies needed to alleviate human suffering. One Great Hour of Sharing (April 3, 2011) is one of the six churchwide Special Sundays with offerings of The United Methodist Church. UMCOR is the humanitarian arm of The United Methodist Church.

Aprril 6: Leadership Summit: The Council of Bishops, in cooperation with the Connectional Table of the United Methodist Church, will be hosting a Leadership Summit via webcast from Nashville TN on April 6, 2011, 11:00am -2:00pm. It is a simultaneous, worldwide, and interactive conversation about the role of the annual conference and its leaders in driving adaptive change for the UMC. It is open to both lay and clergy. April 29-May 1: RxConnexion, an annual consultation for health volunteers and will be held at First UMC of Glen Ellyn. The week-end will showcase local, national and international volunteerism and provide related sharing and education. Bishop Jung will be participating. Youth VIM Work Camp Opportunity

There will be a youth-focused Mission Discovery VIM trip at Humboldt Park UMC this summer, June 22nd-29th. This trip is being organized for youth across the North Central Jurisdiction and hosted here in Chicago! During this work-camp style mission experience, youth will be able to paint, serve in a soup kitchen, provide direct care for those in need, or participate in many other mission experiences.
