Rev. Modesto Mamani of Bolivia Visits Northern Illinois Conference

Rev. Modesto Mamani Achata, in indigenous Aymara, currently the National Secretary of Life and Missions of the Iglesia Evangelica Metodista en Bolivia (IEMB) will be arriving on February 16 from Bolivia to spend 14 days in the Northern Illinois Conference.

Sunday, February 20, 3-7 PM, he will discuss U.S. foreign policy and its impact on indigenous culture at a public event, hosted by CRLN at First UMC of Evanston. Read more...

Friday, February 18
, he will  be at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary to teach and discuss how the seminary may work together with those in Bolivia. Saturday, February 19, you may listen to his discussion with Rev. Orlando Moller on the radio. Tune to AM 850 between 3-4 PM to listen.

February 21-26, Rev. Mamani will participate in the 5-day Spiritual Academy in Frankfort.  Additional info...

Bishops react to homosexuality statement
A call by 36 retired bishops to end The United Methodist Church's ban on homosexual clergy has prompted varied reactions from church leaders. In the past two weeks, some bishops have urged prayer and thoughtful discussion. Others have expressed disappointment in the retired leaders. Still others have voiced support for the change. Districts offer Lay Academies

Rockford District Lay Academy will be held Sat-Sun. Feb. 19-20 at Trinity UMC in Freeport
Chicago Northwester District Lay Academy will be held Sat. Feb. 19, and Feb. 26 in Park Ridge.   
 

Aurora District Lay Academy will be held on 5 consecutive Sundays March 13-April 10 in Naperville.
