Haiti Fundraising Update
|
The latest from Merrie Bunt, Apportionments Administrator:
The churches of the Northern Illinois Conference have raised more than a quarter million dollars since the disaster struck last month. To date, $263,000 has been sent through the Conference office to the United Methodist Committee on Relief in support of the relief efforts on the ground in Haiti, Grace Children's Hospital in Haiti, and the material resource (health & layette kit) ministry. As UMCOR turns its focus to long-term recovery in Haiti, nationwide contributions to the agency has topped $11 million, in addition to some 350,000 health kits. Thank you for your support!
For more information on how your church can contribute to this effort, please see the third column of any page of our website, http://www.umcnic.org

The
most important Northern Illinois Conference mission event of 2010
is coming March 12th through March 14th. Ayni-Bolivia, a trio of
musicians from La Paz, will be performing a series of concerts to raise
money for the on-going construction of a new church sanctuary for the
Methodist congregation in Chua, Bolivia.
These concerts will
replace the NIC Mission Banquet, which would normally be held in the
spring. All concerts will be free and open to the public. No tickets
are necessary. Seating will be on a first come first serve basis. A
free will offering will be taken at each concert with proceeds going to
the Chua, Bolivia Church Construction project (NIC Advance #50000139).
Ayni-Bolivia
is a wonderfully entertaining trio performing with voice, on guitar and
on indigenous instruments including panpipes. The concerts will take us
on a tour of the various regions and cultures of Bolivia through music.
The many folk music styles of Bolivia will be described and performed.
We will learn how these musical styles reflect the many cultures of
Bolivia. Ayni-Bolivia consists of Mirtha Carrazana, Lucas Conrady and
Juan Carlos Cordero.
