Message from Haiti Health Kit Distributor: "Keep it Coming!"

By Rev. Christina Vosteen

"Keep it coming!" That's the word from Chatham, our nearest UMCOR distribution center. Donations for health kits continue to pour into the center. Yet so quickly, many of us are ready to go on to the next task. But health kits continue to be a huge need! So thank you for every prayer and dollar, every toothbrush, washcloth and towel, each comb and clipper, the stacks of soap and bandaids! Your abundant generosity is essential and so appreciated. And don't stop now!

Anyi-Bolivia to Perform Concerts March 12-14
Proceeds to Support Chua, Bolivia Church Construction

By Wally Calaway
wcalaway@sbcglobal.net, 630-910-1179

The most important Northern Illinois Conference mission event of 2010 is coming March 12th through March 14th. Anyi-Bolivia, a trio of musicians from La Paz, will be performing a series of concerts to raise money for the on-going construction of a new church sanctuary for the Methodist congregation in Chua, Bolivia.

These concerts will replace the NIC Mission Banquet, which would normally be held in the spring. All concerts will be free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary. Seating will be on a first come first serve basis. A free will offering will be taken at each concert with proceeds going to the Chua, Bolivia Church Construction project (NIC Advance #50000139).

Anyi-Bolivia is a wonderfully entertaining trio performing with voice, on guitar and on indigenous instruments including panpipes. The concerts will take us on a tour of the various regions and cultures of Bolivia through music. The many folk music styles of Bolivia will be described and performed. We will learn how these musical styles reflect the many cultures of Bolivia. Anyi-Bolivia consists of Mirtha Carrazana, Lucas Conrady and Juan Carlos Cordero.

2nd Annual Chili Cook Off and Pie Bake Off
Saturday, February 20, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
925 W. Diversey, Chicago

The Superbowl is over. March has not yet begun its madness. The Stanley Cup looms and Spring Training games don't start for 2 months. We are Chicagoans. Competition drives us, but what fuels us?

Food! Food in the guise of chili and pie.

That's right; it's that time of year again. Join us Saturday, February 20th from 11am-2pm for the Holy Covenant Chili and Pie cook off. Contestants will be required to make either 1 pie, or a crock-pot full of chili. Who will win the trophy?

If you're not a contestant, a $5 donation is asked to offset the cost of plates, silverware, and beverages. Any monies left over will be put towards Dignity Diner, or another charity.

Please send your pancake breakfast or other meal to communications@umcnic.org with the subject line "Pancakes."
