Harvest 2020 New Faith Community:
The Glen first worship tonight!

By Rev. Rob Hamilton, Associate Pastor, Glenview UMC

Glenview United Methodist Church will hold a Community Candlelight Service on December 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Schram Memorial Chapel-the former Navy chapel-located on The Glen. This first worship service is a Harvest 2020 New Faith Community initiative and part of Glenview's satellite ministry efforts through strategic and intentional outreach.

Rev. Kristen Larsen, Senior Pastor of Glenview UMC, says, "It is important, in this area of our community that lacks the presence of a house of worship, to offer a relevant experience of Emmanuel where they live rather than hoping they will come to us."

The candlelight service is going to be very traditional in keeping with the historic space and appeals to area residents by inviting them to partake in a familiar Christmas tradition from their childhood and to share the experience with their children.  Before the service, there will also be a winter coat drive to help those in need in the Garfield Park neighborhood.

We ask the Conference to please pray for those who will attend this outreach service; this may be the first time people have heard the story of Christ's birth in a long time. Perhaps, even a first for their children. This first worship service on the Glen is a great way to spread the message of Jesus to people outside of our own congregation.

We are very grateful for our generous partnership with Bethany Methodist Communities and the United Methodist Foundation who supplied grant funding and other gifts in kind to help us reach people for Jesus Christ.

Council of Bishops Special Appeal for the Philippines

In September and October, 2009, four powerful typhoons hit the Philippines, causing widespread devastation. At least 1,000 people were killed, and thousands more were displaced because of flooding and landslides. The Council of Bishops has issued a Churchwide Appeal for Philippines Disasters (No. 818-002-PHP). Contributions will provide humanitarian relief and support for the ministries and congregations of The United Methodist Church in the Philippines. Please pray for your sisters and brothers in the Philippines and give generously. One hundred percent of every donation goes to the Churchwide Appeal for Philippines Disasters.

Donations for this appeal are credited to Rainbow Covenant giving. Please contact Merrie Bunt at mbunt@umcnic.org for more information.
