Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In a time when we are all drawn to
thinking about those things that are scarce in our world, it is easy
to focus on the struggles. The church is called to witness and
give voice for the poor, our children caught up in violence, the debate
for health care, unemployment, homelessness, immigration and hunger.
Today as we celebrate Thanksgiving,
we give thanks that we can gather in community to offer our voices to
these and other concerns. We give thanks that God is working among
us in powerful, meaningful ways to provide for those in need.
As you gather with
friends and family to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast, I join you with prayers
of gratitude for the grace and love of God offered to our world and
lived out in our lives.
I am grateful for God's abundant
generosity, as I witness the excitement of congregations engaged in spiritual
growth, social justice and ministry with the poor.
I am grateful for dedicated clergy
offering faithful leadership in challenging times, and for committed laity whose witness brings the church alive.
May this day be filled with the blessings
of friendship, fellowship, feasting and time in which to offer your
thanksgiving to God, our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.
Your Brother in Christ, Hee-Soo Jung

Thanksgiving
For each new morning with its light, For
rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
