Why you shouldn't miss the Laity Summit Saturday

By Matt Kuzma, Communications

Good morning, I'm writing this to you from our Extended Cabinet Retreat in St. Charles. The Bishop, District Superintendents and other staff meet each fall to take stock of our situation and chart out the next few months of events and ministry.

This year, we are spending two days with Rev. Gil Rendle, a UMC clergyperson, consultant and the featured speaker for this Saturday's Laity Summit.

Friends, I must tell you that after our first day with Gil, I now have a completely new vision of:

  • Why it is so hard for most churches to reach young people
  • Why dedication to the core purpose and mission of the church is so important
  • Why we need to do less, not more
  • Why we feel busy yet feel like we accomplish so little
  • Why it is crucial to be patient and not cynical
  • Why United Methodists love rules and regulations

I can't wait to see what I learn today!

Please send someone from your church to see Gil this Saturday. Your lay leaders need to hear his message. God's love for us is not changing, but the world around us is.

There is a registration fee of $10 to cover lunch, but friends, if you can't get a check sent in time just bring a lunch and show up. You won't regret it.
