Churches Working Together

PG and Christ Carpenter

From Dist. Superintendent Ouk-Yean Kim Jueng:

Last Sunday afternoon, some Poplar Grove UMC members came out to Rockford and celebrated together with members of Christ the Carpenter UMC the completion of their remodeling project at the church. The service was wonderful, full of gratitude, joy and excitement. Celebrating their accomplishments, they vowed to continue their sister church relationship.

For the last 1.5 years, members of Poplar Grove came over almost every week (on Thursdays) to do all kinds of remodeling work inside and outside the church building of Christ the Carpenter. Three major highlights of their work were building a wall between the sanctuary and the fellowship hall, making restrooms handicap accessible, and painting the walls. The church is now very clean and beautiful, and people look happier than ever before.

As we were in the fellowship hall after the service, I noticed that the beautifully remodeled room still looked dark because of many dead light bulbs and broken lighting fixtures on the ceiling. Looking up, I thought Poplar Grove could not afford it after spending a fortune to fix all other things. Then, Pastor Montel Putney told me that one of the Christ Church members would take care of it later. What a great partnership!

I am deeply grateful to these congregations and our pastors for their leadership and partnership in ministry and hope that others will be encouraged and inspired by their examples.

Blessings,

Ouk-Yean

c. Constitutional Amendments

The 2008 General Conference approved 32 amendments to the United Methodist Church Constitution. Constitutional amendments must be voted on directly; the Annual Conferences may not amend them. To become law, the amendments must be ratified by two-thirds of the members of the Annual Conferences.

24 of the amendments relate to the worldwide nature of the church and the differences of church organization between the United States and other countries. Our conference will consider these amendments in June; please see our website or http://www.worldwidechurch.org for more information about these amendments.

Pancake Breakfast of the Week

Whose breakfast will reign supreme?

#1 - Faith UMC, Bolingbrook:
Sunday, May 17, 8:00 a.m. - noon
1570 Rodeo Dr., Bolingbrook, IL 60490

Greetings,

My name is Jon Wilterdink. I am the youth pastor at Crossroads of Faith UMC in Bolingbrook, IL. We are having our 4th annual pancake breakfast from 8am-12pm to support our youth in mission trips this summer to the Rockford area. Every year we raise a large tent to house
the breakfast in the parking lot. This is a funny moment because currently our congregation gathers weekly in an event tent for worship. It looks as though we double our worship space in one weekend! This we are settling the ongoing debate in the men's group over which is a better breakfast, pancakes vs. French toast.

Best,
Jon Wilterdink
