About the Artist:
Michelle Leivan's enduring subject is the female form with a subversive twist on the classic nude. Stripping the figure of the culturally significant cues of beauty, she dares the viewer to find the subtle essence of facial expression and gesture. Michelle's unexpected pallet provides a multicultural, non-ethnic specific tone which captures the universal aspects of femininity.

"My work chronicles my personal search for self-identity and purpose through the female and the floral forms with a focus on color, expression and a distinctive womanly style." - Michelle Leivan

Educated at Fort Hays State University , Michelle Leivan has been distinguished as the featured visual artist at the Aaron Douglas Art Fair(2007), Topeka Jazz Festival(2005), Kansas River Valley Art Fair (2000), and has been nominated for the Kansas Governor's Artist Award. Michelle has participated in one person shows and exhibits at the Manhattan Arts Center, Art Council of Topeka, True Art Gallery and Topeka Performing Arts Center. She has also exhibited in several juried competitions on the internet and in Soho New York.
