June 7 - Flower Communion  Rev. Amy Russell
~ Flower Communion is a historic Unitarian tradition introduced by Rev. Norbert Capek in Czechoslovakia on June 4, 1923.  We will each celebrate by bringing in flowers to share in a communion, where everyone takes home someone else's contribution.  The youth of the congregation will join us for the first half of the service.
June 14 - Secularism: What's Missing  Rev. Amy Russell
~ Charles Taylor, in his book A Secular Age, describes the rationalism of the modern world as missing the deeper meaning that a natural spirituality can bring it, without the trappings of a traditional religion.  Are we missing something when we rely solely on our reason?  Can a non-dualistic view of the world be seen as spiritual?

Calling Care Callers!
No hassle, no pressure, no psychology degree needed...just a quarterly "check in" with several folks in the MVUUF Fellowship.  That is what we ask.  Who is a carecaller?  It is a person who makes a friendly call, e-mails, drops a note, or even shares a cup of coffee at the Fellowship to strengthen interpersonal connections.  What a carecaller is not:  He/She is not a psychologist or therapist, just another member who cares enough to touch base to exchange pleasantries.  Sylvia Wince will be calling you to ask you to be a carecaller.  Or you can email her at [email protected] or see her at Sunday services. Please say "yes" to her request that you be a "Carecaller" for several UUs.

Offering for June
The Social Concerns Committee invites plate offerings for Equality Ohio.  Equality Ohio advocates for fair treatment and equal opportunities for Ohio's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens.  It does so by collaborating with local, regional, statewide, and national organizations and government agencies.  Most recently, Equality Ohio sponsored its fourth annual Lobby Day, in which people from all over Ohio (including eight members of MVUUF) met with legislators to advocate for full equality in antidiscrimination legislation covering housing and employment.  For more information, please visit Equality Ohio

Dayton Pride Parade 2009
Join members and friends of MVUUF in this year's Dayton Gay Pride Parade.  The Fellowship has participated in this event since its inception.  This year's parade will be on Sat., June 6, with lineup at 11 a.m. and the parade at noon.  We will meet at Cooper Park (behind Dayton Metro Library, on St. Clair, between 2nd & 3rd streets).  MVUUF will also have an informational table on Courthouse Square.  We need volunteers to staff the table & talk to others about the Fellowship.  If you're not up to the walk, please join us at Courthouse Square.  For more information or to sign up to volunteer at the table, please contact Joe Law or Phil Wise.
