Dear Alumni,

Dear Alumni,

There is so much exciting Alumni activity to report in this newsletter that I'll try to keep this intro as brief as possible. The Association is are now entering our fifth year!  And we are going strong and growing.

Upcoming events include Life After Showcase panels in both L.A. and New York. We will also be publishing our 2nd annual directory of graduates and our 3rd annual Alumni News page. As you may have noticed, we have adopted a brand new logo. As an independent non-profit organization run by and for alumni--we felt we needed our own look and logo (the seagull represents the Moscow Art Theatre and the crimson shield is for Harvard).

In addition, we'd like to invite you to join the A.R.T. Alumni Facebook group. (Look us up under "American Repertory Theatre Institue Alumni").

We hope you'll join us for the upcoming events and take a few moments to send us your alumni news and update your profile.

And THANKS for making the A.R.T. Alumni Association such a unique,  thriving and supportive network.

Yours,

Rebekah Maggor (03)

Alumni News Updates

Hello Alumni,

This June, the ART alumni community will grow by 17 actors, each hoping to make their own mark on the creative landscape.  If those 17 were to visit the Alumni News Page on the ART website, they would see that hundreds of alumni have already paved the way - working on and off Broadway, in Hollywood and on university campuses across the country and world.  In a year's time, these new 17 will have exciting news to report about where they've been and the people they've met.

In the meantime, the time of year has come when the Alumni Association wants to know what you, our seasoned alumni, have been up to.  I am updating the Alumni News Page for 2008 and I'm looking for your submissions.

The drill will be familiar for some of you.  It takes probably 20 minutes of your time:

1.      Write a paragraph about what you've been doing from approximately June of 2007 to May of 2008.  This can include plays, TV shows or movies you've been in, written or produced, classes you've taught, journals you've written for, books you've published, major life changes you've experienced, people you've met.  Pretty much anything goes. Please keep your submission to three sentences.  (Follow this link to take a look at the current page for guidance:   A.R.T. Alumni News)

2.   Send that paragraph to me at dandomingues@hotmail.com with:

                        a.  Your name and graduation year in the subject line.

b.  Your NAME, GRADUATION YEAR, and DISCIPLINE somewhere in the body!!  Very important.

3.   Then send me a jpeg picture in a separate e-mail with your name, graduation  year and the word "PICTURE" in the subject line.  This picture should be a still or candid of you from a production, NOT a headshot. Please include photo credits and names of other performers, when applicable.

4.      The deadline date is May 20th, 2008.

I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you.

Best Wishes,

Dan Domingues

Directory of Graduates--Update Your Profile
Fellow Alums,

One of the most important goals of the Alumni Association is to keep our graduates CONNECTED. Through one another we get work as artists,  survival jobs, teaching gigs, sublets, not to mention inspiration and support. How many times have you seen a shout-out  on the list-serve of an alum trying to get in touch with another alum? Having a directory of graduates handy is a convenient and valuable resource. You won't have to go searching for your alumni friends-you'll have all the information at your fingertips. We published our first annual directory of graduates last year and this year we hope to produce an expanded and improved version with more contact information and resources. In order to do this, we need your help! All you have to do is update your own profile in our database. (This information is confidential and for the exclusive use of the Alumni Association.)

Here's how:

1. Click on the following link and enter your e-mail address, and click "submit"

UPDATE YOUR PROFILE

2. You will receive directions via e-mail on how to update your profile.

It's that simple!

And, by the way, we're always looking for ways to improve the directory. How could we make this new version better than last year's? Send me any comments or suggestions you might have. (Please remember that in order to get your copy of the directory, you need to pay your Alumni dues!)

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours,

Alumni Association 2008 Dues!

Question: Why the heck should I pay my dues?

Answer: Because the Alumni Association can't exist without your support!

We try to keep the dues as low as possible, but, as an independent non-profit organization we do have several expenses we must cover, which include renting space for events and parties, providing refreshments at those events and parties, paying our accountant and lawyer (at generously reduced rates, by the way),  publishing our directory of graduates, covering our e-mail service fee, and we are also in the process of raising money for the future A.R.T. Artistic Lab.

Keep in mind that all the alumni who keep the Association running are VOLUNTEERS. That's right, none of us  Board Members, Officers or Committee Heads get one cent for our hard work. We all just get the satisfaction of building and maintaining this amazing community of artists.

Question: What's in it for me?

Answer: The immediate perks of paying your dues include a copy of the Directory of Graduates, the right to vote in Association Elections, and discounts to Alumni events. The long-term advantages of building a strong Alumni Association are invaluable-- you will be up-to-date with and hooked in to a network of creative and successful graduates.
