Licking River Greenway & Trails Update:
Construction will begin the week of September 10th on Phase 1 of the paved levee trails as part of the Licking River Greenway. Trail work will stretch from Levassor Avenue to Clayton-Meyer Park on Thomas Street with a hopeful completion date of early November.
As a reminder this project was funded through the Department of Local Government (DLG) Recreational Trails Program Grant for $80,000, a grant from the Durr Foundation for $30,000, a generous donation from former City Commissioner Jerry Stricker for $20,000, and the remaining funds from Covington Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds dedicated to recreational improvements.
Construction will impact the playground at Clayton-Meyer Park and require its removal. The intent is to replace with new pieces once trail construction is finished. Once completed this multi-use, asphalt paved trail will link with our gravel nature path for nearly 2 miles worth of trails.
Please feel free to contact the Recreation Department if you have any questions related to the project.
Next Available Licking River Greenway Trail Days:

NKADD Partners with Covington Housing Authority's HOPE VI Grant
The NKADD has developed a new partnership with the Covington Housing Authority's Hope VI grant to offer employment services and job readiness classes to residents. The program will have a three tiered approach that consists of one on one career counseling, job readiness classes, and a wage subsidy element.
It is the goal of this partnership to help residents achieve self-sufficiency. To this end, the career counselor will guide residents on an individual basis through the job seeking process and beyond. An NKADD staff person will be located on-site at Golden Towers to offer residents an opportunity to meet individually to discuss career goals and develop strategies to overcome barriers. In addition, the career counselor will offer job leads and resume assistance. Appropriate referrals will be made to partnering agencies. Follow up services will be offered for each client to ensure employment maintenance and career advancement opportunities.
Job readiness courses will also be offered on site at City Heights twice a week. These classes will equip residents with the necessary skills they need to enter the workforce. The course will consist of a three to four hour workshop each session that will instruct residents in "soft" skills training, interviewing, professionalism, resume writing and a myriad of other readiness activities. These classes will provide residents with a sense of camaraderie which will help encourage residents to achieve their goals. The Workforce Division recognizes that confidence is a critical element of finding a job. By celebrating successes, the courses will help individuals to enter the job search process with a confidence that may not have previously existed.
The final component of the program is wage-subsidy. The NKADD Career Counselor will build relationships with local businesses to identify employer needs. For employers that are interested in hiring new staff, a subsidized employment opportunity may be offered to qualified housing authority residents.
This partnership presents an opportunity to bring employment services to individuals. A full array of partner services will be offered on-site with the realization that it often takes a combination of programs for individuals to move towards self-sufficiency. The Workforce Division is extremely excited about this opportunity.
